upgrading Android to Lollipop, remove your micro SD card before upgrading

Featured Replies

I upgraded my Motorola moto G2 to Lollipop the other day and it trashed the micro SD card.

Not only wiped it but cannot even reformat it now.

I did back up the phone and card prior to upgrading so no problem except had to buy a new card.

Wish I had removed the card prior to stating the upgrade process though.

just a heads up

cheers

I haven't heard of this problem related to the Lollipop update. It certainly wasn't a problem when I updated my M8. Was your card a SanDisk Ultra by any chance?

No it was a Kingston HC class 4 16GB

I did try reformating the trashed card on my windows 7 machine and also my samung galaxy tab which is still on ICS but no luck.

Another SD card worked fine

Not to worried as it is a nice excuse to buy a 32GB card :)

cheers

I upgraded a 1st gen. Moto G to Lollypop with no issues. The 32gb SD was inserted at the time.

Some people find that if they can mount the sd in other devices, then back up/format/restore it, it then works. I just found a similar issue on my LG G3 so will try tonight. Would hate to lose all the videos of the girlfriends cat.

You mean cat or pussy?biggrin.png If the latter I'll back them up for you for free.
