There's a real good Thai restaurant opened 3 mnths ago on the canal rd.

If you are going up rt. 1001 (Mae Jo -Phrao Rd.) take a right at the Uni and after the first 7/11 on your left take a left at the first traffic light.

Continue till a small bridge and take a left and it's up on your left. (right before canal where there is a Sunday Market)

Sorry for the pretty bad directions but hopefully the pics (with telephone number!) help.

It's well worth finding!!

I think it's here 18.894344, 99.033823

Have you been to Mama Mia Pizzeria? Not exactly Mae Jo but pretty close for excellent pizza.

He said he didn't want western food. Geez : )

Nimmo House is about five km north of Mae Jo, west of the Phrao highway. Look for a bright orange sign on the left of the road. Turn left, continue until you find yourself next to a vast garden cut off from view by a tall hedge. Go on to the T-junction, turn right, and the entrance is about 100m along on your right.

Its Facebook Page is here.

The food is Japanese, with quite a varied menu in the table-prepared Shabu-shabu/Yakitori-styles. The location is outdoors, beside a private lake in a stunning garden.

It is SERIOUSLY popular, so don't bother turning up without calling for a reservation (I've made that mistake and had to leave). Strangely, reservations are easy to get so long as you call a few hours ahead. I'm guessing it must have had some serious publicity on Thai TV, because it is always busy, despite the remote location.

Highly recommended. Oh, and they have about one hundred imported beers, and several foreign beers on draught.

It's not a place for the all-you-can-eat-for-99 Baht crowd. Budget about 400 Baht a person. More if you have a thirst for foreign ales.

MaeJo food court.

On the right of the 7-11 near the golf club traffic lights on the old 1001, open from 5pm, eat in or take out.

On the right working back, 1st stall drinks, 2nd stall empty, 3rd stall Thai food like grapow at 30bht inc rice, large serving, 4th stall noodles.

On the left, 3rd stall traditional Issan food, lady speaks good English as married to an American.

Toilets, free water and ice in the food court, whole place very clean and new.

Seaside restaurant.

Belive traffic lights on main 1001, turn towards mountains, follow road round to the right, left at the next crossroad +200m.

Big wood hut on stilts over a lake, Beer Chang girls, the usual Thai fish and soup dishes (over a candle flame).

Nice seafood, good ambiance, live music Friday/Saturday, deserted before 8pm.

Around 600bht for two main orders, beer, spy and ice. Thai menus only, no English spoken.

You'll be the only foreigners there.

Found that place, junglechef. And i can tell you, and all others, that i will surely return and next time will order 2 platters of fried squid, hmmm gud. As gud as any i've eaten in Hong Kong, a big seafood village.

When i arrived at the entrance two workers, kitchen helpers?, were collecting mushrooms from the cultivated mushroom patch near the front. I know a bit about the 'shrooms and could see the bales of rice straw had been soaked, seeded and covered with poly, then shaded. After some time the covers are removed and the ready buttons are taken. Recover and wait another 3 days to harvest. Also saw nice looking cabbages, kale and herbs at the front. Many flowering plants inside and out. All very nice. And a bonus included "Patsy Cline from Issan' on the music. Nice indeed.

Location: follow the marked road to the MaeJo golf club but immediately prior, 75 meters, before the cement bridge, turn right. It's off the road 50 meters. Sports an extensive menu at reasonable Thai prices.

Only neg comment would be no free water offered. On the other hand, did i tell you about the lovely and tender fried calamari?

I second the MaeJo food court...the "Issan lady" (Rin) prepares her food fresh every day....my wife loves it.
