My mother in law will be coming to the UK on 12th July, I am going to be in Bangkok in early April, Can I apply for her visa then as I will be able to go with her.

I know you used to be able to ask for a visa to be predated but i'm unsure if this is still the case.

Thank you

As far as I know you can ask for it to be post dated but to a maximum of 30 days from date of application

As for "going with her" that would only be to escort her to the foyer to hand in the paperwork, you wouldnt be allowed to accompany her inside.

You can actually ask for a visa to be post dated for up to three months, make sure you make the request very clear and obvious as they've been known to miss it.

As CharlieH has indicated, only the applicant can enter the actual Visa Application Centre, though the staff will normally let a carer in the applicant is disabled or infirm.

It is longer than 30 days I believe.

It is hit and miss though. Out of four applications where I made a request for post-dating, 2 were and 2 were not post-dated.

You can actually go upstairs and wait until the applicant goes to the appointment - there she is alone to do the biometrics and 'interview'.

Thank you for the reply's I know I can't go in with her it is more just to make sure she gets there without getting lost. So if she applies say 9th April with luck it wont start until around the 2nd July so that should then cover from her12th July until the 2nd September

The timing is immaterial if her return date is 2nd September - anything issued after 2nd March will cover her on a 6 month General Visitor visa.

The travel dates you quote in the application will give the ECO a clue.............................. whether they pick up on it is another matter.
