Too much gold

Featured Replies

sorry guys. but my wife has just loaded this one one me. we are off to England tomorrow and she has 67gms of gold that she wants to take with her. Is this a problem leaving and going into the uk. We are going in on a spouse visa. All responses will be received tongue in cheek but do not need a problem after a long haul getting the visa.

thanks

As far as I know, if it is in the form of jewelery, not a problem. But coins, bars etc perhaps so.

Man u musta picked a winna....and once there it doesnt even look like gold

You mean the fact that Thai gold so yellow, making it look cheap and gaudy?

That's because Thai jewelry is made with a more pure gold that in the west, 23 carats pure, rather than the typical 18 carats or less in your country.

So, who's a winner and who's a loser, Mr. Disparage?

67 grams is about 2.11 ounces or about $3000 if it is pure. The standard declaration for Customs is $10,000 or equivalent (I think...might wanna double check)...so no need to give the 411 about the wifes 2.11

To ensure she wears it and it is not visible to customs on her way into the u,k. keep receipts with you just in case, my wife has been in and out of the u.k. many times over the past 28 years with no problems.
