Hi all out there in tv land I have been on this site not quite 12 and I have read a lot of very good things and I do enjoy read here when I have some free time have leant a lot more about thailand.

But I read so much thai basher and so meany western men so unhappy here in thailand and can't understand it .

I have been coming and going to thailand for the pass 6 years and I have had a lot of very good time here and had some sh?t go on that I did not like but that is life .

But I still love coming to thailand ! I no it has it's bad things and so do places all over the world .

I just love thailand and thai people very much and for the life of me can't understand why so meany don't like the place and if you don't like it why come and live here .

The first thing I did when I first started coming here was to go home and lean to talk thai and now I am ok with , it helps me a lot to understand thai people .

Could you all please tell me why you come here and like thailand and please no thai basher .

Yes I know a lot come here and get rep off but that can happen back in there home country as well .

And if you are stupid to let your self to get rep off it is your own fault not the thais fault.

Cheers and thank you to all out there who wright here on TV .

If I feel there is an injustice or I disagree with something I will say it. It doesn't make me unhappy. Please don't generalise as what you have said is inaccurate.

I'm not having a go at you for 'some thing good about thailand'. I'm having a go at you for coming on like an expert when you're just a tourist here and all you do is spam the forum with unreadable nonsense.

Typical of some TV posters, I've been here longer than you I know it all blah blah blah.

A westerner can be living here for 30 years stuck in a village. Do you honestly believe he or she will 'know more' about Thailand or a 'tourist' who may have been coming for 10 years and travelled around the country.

I thought you were talking about people who are unhappy in Thailand.

I love it here. So much so that I moved here.

those who are unhappy are far more likely to shout about it than those who are happy. nothing strange there, it happens everywhere.

therefore OP dont be misled by the vocally unhappy minority.

i'm happy here, obviously not everything is perfect but then neither has everything been perfect in any country i've lived in.

Of course she understands Thai people - She is Thai. And by the way negative baseless generalizations are trollish. What she does not understand is Western mentality :

In this case that is, constructive criticism is not on indicator of unhappiness. .

It appears we understand them differently and you should understand this with bashers as you call them, id say realists personally

It's April 2nd now here...enough of the nonsense topics please......never mind carry on

Oh god tourists who think they figured it all out.. living here is different as coming on a holiday to a country. Anyone not understanding that is just wasting internet space.

I moan and bitch like the best of them, I did the same back home. There is no perfect place and there are always things to complain about or not to like. The longer you are somewhere the more you see the bad sides. When I came here as a tourist or just moved here everything was perfect. Now its just like any other place with good and bad things.

If I don't like it here i leave, but I like it here so I comment on things I don't like. But the majority of things is good here. Anyone knows that people are more likely to write about something gone wrong or something they don't like then happy stories.

"how in the hell would you know if I come here on holiday who told you that"

It was rather spelt out, by you, when you said things like "I have been coming and going to thailand for the pass 6 years" and "But I still love coming to thailand" and "when I first started coming here was to go home". I guess that English isn't your first language, and you didn't say you were now living here, in the OP.

Why does that matter ? Perhaps because the experience of living here, rather than just visiting for short periods, gives a very different perspective, which is reflected in the way posters view the country.

Most of us view the country positively, most of the time, which is why we're still happily living here ! Just like yourself, in fact !

But in learning to understand the differences, or coping with frustration over some of the oddities of the culture and life here, people do sometimes need to 'let off steam'. And TV is an excellent place to do that, you'll often learn (if not always agree with) why 'they' do things the way that they do, please remember that many posters are stuck in small villages & just need to get something 'off their chest'.

This may well be you, after you've married & had a family & built a house in Ban Nawk, and gotten past the first few years of full-time residence, with the usual Immigration problems understood & settled, and her family has gotten used to you & your funny farang ways !

Posters on TV do mostly love the country, as you still do, that's why we stay ! wai2.gif

Trouble is all you hear are the bad stories those of us that are perfectly happy here don't post stories on tv

" Why are western men are unhappy in Thailand " as oppose to what? western men happy elsewhere

in the world but not in Thailand? and how can any put out a statement like this? happiness is

subjective state of minds and on so many and endless levels, to many to fathom and grasp,

and until now, no one yet, not even the most brilliant scientists and philosophers has yet defined

what happiness is, or what really make this man happy but not the next?

###Closed### OP is happy now apparently

Some people feel trapped

Some people miss back home

Some people can't wrap their hands around the outrageous levels of corruption

Some people feel like Thais just don't like us

There are a lot of reasons why people become unhappy here and personally I have gone through stages of feeling my life had become a bit stagnant here probably fueled by the lack of a proper social life and working far too much. But over the last year or so I feel like I have turned a corner and I am starting to appreciate the simple things in living here again. It is very easy to get jaded about living in Thailand once you get over the first five years and personally I try my best to stay positive about life here and not get sucked into the bitching and moaning.

Everyone is allowed an opinion though and if you are unhappy here I could understand why but personally I see myself living here for a very long time and being happy as well. But I suppose the truth of the matter is that there is no paradise on earth where everything perfect and everyone's life is bound to have ups and downs regardless of where you are living.
