I understand that 3 a.m. on Thursday, 28 September is at the moment the official opening time for all international flights at Suvarnabhumi airport and I thought it would be interesting to see who among the ThaiVisa members reading this forum is the first one scheduled to land in Bangkok after that hour.

So far, I know about Rinrada:

29 SEP TG 917 1505 hours, from London

I seem to remember reading about another member scheduled to arrive in the morning of 28 September but cannot find that post anymore.

Therefore, I should like to invite everybody who has a confirmed reservation for an international flight arriving in Bangkok on or after 0300 hours (3 a.m.) on 28 September 2006, but earlier than the earliest flight previously posted, to report it here. I propose that, for consistency, you post the arrival details in the format given above for Rinrada’s scheduled arrival.

Classification as at 03 SEP 2006 0800 hours UTC:

Erikr, 28 SEP ??? 0720 hours, from ???

Rinrada, 29 SEP TG 917 1505 hours, from London

Cheeky Farang, 29 SEP TG 917 1505 hours, from London

Outside the competition (new, secondary competition):

Thaiflyer1, 26 SEP FD 3504 1655 hours, from Singapore

I have a dilemma with Thaiflyer. I said “international flight”, which would qualify him, but I also said “on or after 0300 hours (3 a.m.) on 28 September 2006, when Suvarnabhumi is officially scheduled to open for all international flights”, which disqualifies him. How shall I now handle this? For the time being, I make a second classification table for this previously unexpected possibility, hoping that nobody will mind. Lets have your entries also for this competition, but only international flights, please.

Rinrada and Cheeky Farang will be on the same plane from London, I see. To break the tie, I propose to see who of the two will be first to post in this thread at which airport he did actually land. Challenge accepted?

Erikr, would you like to complete the data for your flight?

Don't bank on me posting to fast on the new airport experience. I have to look forward to a taxi to Mor-Chit then a 3.5-hour bus journey to Korat, I then a further journey on local transport before I can get near a PC. So the earliest I can post will be about on the morning of the 30th.

:o

I'm not in the running, as I'm not scheduled to arrive until 3 October at 0600 from Athens, Greece. However I would be interested to know of anybody who actually has a CONFIRMED landing in the new airport after the 28th Of September. NOT just a flight to BKK that is SUPPOSED to land in the new airport, and NOT just a flight for which the airline says,"it has been announced that the new airport will open on the 28th of September", but a flight fo which the airline is willing to CONFIRM that it will land in the new airport.

The reason I say that is because even Thai International will not CONFIRM that their flight will land on 3 October in the new airport. The best I can get from anyone at Thai International is that,"it has been announced that new airport will be open for arrivals on September 28."

As you see those are not the same thing. I really would like to know what airport my Thai family should meet me at on my arrival.

Maybe I will get a confirmation before I leave. Either way, I'm just going with the flow.

Aye, Cheeky Farang, but notice how carefully the reply of THAI in London is worded, using the conjunctive “would” (blue text added by me):

Please be informed that your seats are now booked on ??K for London to Bangkok.

As per advised from our Head Office, Suvanrnabhumi Airport will open on 28 September 2006, therefore, if this really were to happen, your fights would arrive at Bangkok at the new Airport, Suvanrnabhumi.

I fear this statement is not quite definite enough to win the prize.

It is all in that “therefore”: “Because Head Office has advised us that Suvarnabhumi will open on 28 September, therefore we inform you that you would land at Suvarnabhumi.” Actually, in this form the sentence is incorrect: it would have to be “you will land”, but apparently they were afraid to make such affirmative statement.

Agree in principal that "you would land" is not quite the same as "you will land" but bearing in mind that we are talking about a Worlds FIRST here which could be considered not too different from the ...err Apollo moon landing :o then young Khun Yao (Londons Thai ROCI Club)is behaving responsibly in her roll as a sort of Flight Mission Director.

We all remember Neil and the lads all those years ago and one would presume that if /when the all system were "A Go-Go" instructions were given then he "would land" on the surface of the big green cheese rather than "will land" on....etc.

"One small step for man - one giant leap for mankind" - unforgettable words as he stepped off the Apollo 11 capsule although they were preceeded by "Mission Control -the Eagle has landed..etc....and before that ....ref to his next door neighbours sexual requests...Good luck Mr Kransknopoulus.....

Sure also that Chris Columbus found himself in a similar situation when it was suggested that he "would land" in the new world rather than "will land " in .........about 1493 rather than sept 29th.....same thing.....innit :D

I opted to arrive at Suvarnabhumi on the 29th rather than a day earlier at Don Muang and risk the chance of arriving at a nearly abandonded airport, perhaps without enough taxis for the last remaining passengers.

Erikr, I have some difficulty verifying your flight data:

EY = Mayan World Airlines

I thought you might be flying Air Emirates, but their flight from Dubai (DBX, not AUH) is EK 6200, arriving 0810 hours.

Your information seems outdated.

# EY – Eagle Air (Tanzania)

# EY – Etihad Airways (Verenigde Arabische Emiraten)

according to IATA list are the other two airlines with the same code

EY is the code for Ethiad Airways and I am flying on the EY401 for AUH to BKK arriving 7:20 am, originally going from LGW

I have been in touch with several airlines and none has got definite instruction for bangkok on the 28th. Even the headquaters of the airlines are not sure what is going to happen

Ethiad! That’s the name I was trying to recollect, because I knew there was another Arab airline offering a good price from London to Bangkok.

Just tried to book this flight in AMS. EVA says it's cancelled. Should I phone BKK?
