Summer temperatures to peak in late April

BANGKOK, 7 April 2015 (NNT) - The Meteorological Department has forecast that summer in Thailand will be at its hottest in late April.

Meteorological Department Director General Wanchai Sakundomchai said that the temperatures in the country will continue to rise this month.

The North, Northeast, Central Plains and scattered areas on the East Coast will have hotter temperatures than the rest of the Kingdom. The department forecast overall temperatures to peak between late April and early May.

Mr. Wanchai added that the heat wave will begin to decline when the country enters its monsoon season in the third week of May.

Deputy PM: Govt to enforce Section 44 on dissident groups

BANGKOK, 7 April 2015 (NNT) - The Deputy Prime Minister has said the government intends to enforce Section 44 of the 2014 interim constitution on certain dissident groups and revealed the types of civilian trials that will continue to be held in military courts after lifting martial law.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krue-ngam claimed that the government will use its powers granted under Section 44 to crack down on dissidents, which can be categorized into four groups.

The first group includes those who have lost political influence and intend on inciting unrest. The second group includes those who intend on stirring conflict to protect their own financial influence.

The third group consists of individuals who intend on obstructing the upcoming electoral process. The fourth group has no political motives, but harbor personal animosities against the administration’s actions or suffered from recent social and political changes.

In addition, Mr Wissanu revealed that civilians who will be tried at military courts include cases related to lese majeste, national security, gun-related violations and violations of orders by the National Council for Peace and Order. There are approximately 100 cases undergoing the military court’s judicial process.

Fire burns down 250 shanty houses of displaced persons

BANGKOK: -- A massive fire burned down 250 shanty houses in the Ban Mai Nai Soi Displaced Persons Centre in Mae Hong Son's Mueang district at 11:30 am Tuesday.

No injuries were reported. The fire was put out at 1 pm. The center shelters some 3,500 persons displaced by wars in Myanmar.

Sing Buri province launches One Stop Service center for foreign laborers

SING BURI, 7 April 2015 (NNT) - Sing Buri province has launched a One Stop Service center for foreign laborer registrations, at the provincial city hall.

Sing Buri employment officer Chartchai Arayawong together with the provincial social security office have responded to the National Council for Peace and Order's (NCPO) policies in resolving illegal foreign labor issues, by setting up the One Stop Service center to provide advice and registrations. The center opened on April 1st, 2015 and will operate until June 30th, 2015. It opens every Tuesday and Wednesday except for public holidays.

Sing Buri province is now home to a large number of foreign laborers who don't have passports. Employers and business operators have been asked to bring in such foreign laborers to register for new cards. As many as 60 people per day have been arriving at the center to register. Singburi province has prepared sufficient staff and a spacious area to conduct the many registrations.
