Work Permit For Part-time Work

Featured Replies

Anyone know if it is possible to get a work permit for part-time work (say 20 hours a week)? With permanent residence, visa requirements are not an issue, so I'm just wondering about any restrictions on work permits for less than a normal working week.

what's the legal definition of part time work ? is it time based or fiscal based ? some folks in thailand earn in one day what some earn in one month.

The thing might hinge on the minimum salary eg 50/60K depending

on your origin.

Would this pro-rata for part-time? Anybody any experience ?

That would not apply to someone with residency I think ... since he has permission to stay regardless

Yes you can.

No restrictions and you do not have the minimum salary criteria of 50 or 60K per month or the requirement to employ Thais.

Situation 1:

What about if I have a Type B visa and I have a work permit, say with Company "A" with all the legal requirements. I also want to do part-time work for Company "B"

1) Do I need a work permit to do part-time work for Company B?

2) Does the "extra" salary (or extra payment really) with Company B have a minimum requirement?

3) Does Company B have to have the minimum registered Capital (2M Baht, etc.)

4) Can I sign small documents (like invoices, etc.) for Company B?

Situation 2:

Let's say I have a Type B visa and work permit with Company "A".

If Company "B" makes me one of their "Directors" (not management director, just the one in the registration papers), can i sign small documents for Company B even without a work permit for Company B (but i have a work permit because of Company A) and even if Company B does not have the quotas for work permit (i.e. 2M baht capital etc.)

Situation 3:

Same as situation 2, but Company B engages my services as a "consultant" instead of a director or management.

Situation 4:

Say my main job is with Company A and I have a work permit with them.

1) Can I just add my extra work (as a director or consultant) with Company B into the same work permit booklet of Company A, and then sign small documents for Company B (such as an invoice, for example). Assume company B does not have the 2M registered capital.

2) If my work in Company B is in the same work permit booklet as Company A, what happens if Company B fires me? Is the work permit still valid? (It was originally issued thru Company A)
