webfact
BOI eyes new markets in Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia & UzbekistanBANGKOK, 23 April 2015 (NNT) – The Board of Investment of Thailand has urged Thai operators to consider doing businesses in new markets in Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia and Uzbekistan where trade opportunities remain plentiful. The BOI said the four countries had potential for investment growth thanks to richness of natural resources, raw materials, labor and availability of Generalized System of Preferences (GSP).According to BOI deputy secretary-general Chokdee Kaewsaeng, Kenya, which enjoys the fastest economic growth in East Africa and has good transport connectivity, is an interesting option for Thai businessmen wishing to invest in agro-industry, food processing and jewelry.South Africa, which is one of the biggest rice importers of Thailand, provides an opportunity to operators planning to expand their businesses in the areas of tourism, hotels and services, construction, banking and food industry.Ethiopia, which enjoys an economic growth of eight percent per year, has been under the spotlight among foreign investors who eye business opportunities in the agro-sector and public utility.Uzbekistan, the third biggest nation of Commonwealth of Independent States, is deemed tempting to entrepreneurs interested in agricultural or mining industries thanks to the country’s abundance of natural resources.-- NNT 2015-04-

Popular Post dcutman
One has to wonder how or why the BOI would think this is a great place to do business. They are all hotbeds of corruption, teeming with human trafficking, forced and child labor. Most willing to sacrifice the entire environment for the smallest of profits. What are they thinking? On second thought its a perfect fit and logical choice. Edited April 23, 2015 by dcutman
phoenixdoglover
Ethiopia? It's one of the poorest countries in the world. It relies heavily on outside (foreign) aid.

Nbarch
Why isn’t Zimbabwe on the list? That’s next to South Africa and close to Kenya? But I suspect because it is a one party state with rigged elections and a President that has basically sold his soul and country to the Chinese, you would not want to business with them. fred Kubasa
Finally someone realized the tourism potential of Kenya, where I, and millions of others, have hungered to visit for decades ! Lions/tigers/snakes on the loose, people killing each other and possibly contracting a fatal illness -- How exciting, like an Indiana Jones adventure ! I 'd rather, on second thought, needing immediate satisfaction of my thrill seeking , may take a Thai bus - anywhere !
