Aftercare for stroke--caregivers, companions

Hello,

My Thai mother-in-law has had several strokes in recent weeks. The strokes have affected her memory but not her physical abilities, though we're afraid she could be unsteady on her feet at moments. She usually lives in Chiang Rai but came to Chiang Mai for medical care at Suan Doc hospital. She's at our home in Chiang Mai home now and a number of family members are here, but in a few weeks, she'll have one daughter keeping an eye on her. Eventually, the two of them will return to Chiang Rai after several follow-up medical appointments. (My wife and I will return to the US in a few weeks.)

We're looking for resources in Chiang Mai --or Chiang Rai--of recommended caregivers. They don't have to be nurses, just companions with some medical knowledge, to help monitor my mother-in-law's health and well-being and to allow my sister-in-law time to be able to get out of the house. We're found one resource in Chiang Rai but would like recommendations if anyone has needed to use such a resource. Thanks for any help.

Thank you. I saw a reference to them somewhere else so it's good to get confirmation. We called and they have told us about a school the provides hone care aides. Thanks for taking the time to answer, I appreciate it.

Check informally with the hospital staff to zero in on some trained assistants. Whatever you set up in home care is going to need management of hired help

Could you post up the information or PM me it for the school. A friend of mine is making a permanent move to Chiang Mai and looking for some part time help with his wife. She has advanced Alzheimer's and he needs some breaks. Mainly making sure she doesn't just wander off. He is very dedicated and spends all his time with her but he is getting worn out. When he has visited before their has always been people around to help him. Now he is going to be permanent and is bringing his dog so he can no longer stay here.

NancyL is very knowledgeable about these matters in the Chiang Mai area. You might try sending her a PM.

Khun Noy a highly qualified Physiotherapist may be in a position to help/give advice.

Noy had over 25 years at Suan Dork and knows the Thai system.

She was great help to me with a 'Knee' problem and IMHO gave better advice then 2 Doctors at RAM.

Noy has helped dozens that I have seen recovering from Stroke, heart attack, road traffic accidents and other physical problems.

Not expensive and a genuinely good person.
