Somebody's been watching too many romantic comedies over at the tourism office.

Maybe somebody- or better all staff of the TAT, should start looking for jobs not overexerting their brainpower unless they want further be known as the "Ministry of Silly Ideas".

These bozos just don't get it, if Thailand was enjoying such a boom in tourism you know, like 23% up, there's no need to run these sillily promotions.

Coming up with these promotions each year has nothing to do with the need for tourists (who needs them, they're all foreigners anyway!), but the need to pass a hefty budget from which to fuel the insatiable graft machine.

Mexico is similar to here in terms of overall safety for tourists. Mexicans basically segregate the tourists from the locals. At least in Puerto Vallarta last year there was pairs of military police on the beach areas with assault rifles every 30-50 meters. Thais are going to have to do more than put up these signs and sit in their police boxes.

Some of the women in these countries are looking for "greener pastures(money)" as well. They could arrive here and compete with some of the bar girls for farang money. Almost once a week I get an invitation on Skype from abroad to be my female Skype "Buddy"

It is now about time that this government agency be disbanded. it spends money like water, it's employees are touring the country staying at top resorts for meetings, it's promotions are a JOKE.

Scrap the TAT---please PM. set up something that will promote your country---new young staff from University fresh with Ideas after graduating with Tourism/Hospitality.

Couldn't agree more but there'a always a BUT and it's patronage etc. For example the Minister of Tourism is the wife of an old pal, another general.

Scandinavians are reporting sewage on beaches in Krabi. (See link below). I was in Hua Hin yesterday for a few days and there were greenish puddles when the tide went out, looked like anti-freeze (the pipes from hotels are exposed when tide is out.) And water in Jomtien is fetid to say the least. This news travels back to our respective countries along with the news about domestic airline safety, serial killers on Ko-Tao, etc.

At a bare minimum they have to keep the beaches cleanish in the south before it becomes like Pattaya/Jomtien.
