Air Asia Chiang Mai to HK

Featured Replies

When returning leave plenty of time to reach the Air Asia terminal .From entering the Airport its about a 40 minute walk .Also getting to the Airport can take longer than an hour by bus from downtown.

I nearly missed my return flight with Airasia last time .

I always take the tube(mtr)to HK airport. Tung Chung the end of line is about 1 or 2 miles from the terminal and there is a shuttle bus doing this bit. Shopping centre, restaurants and a cinema when you get of the tube.

Curious to why you takes the mtr to Tung Chung instead of the Airport express direct to the airport, given that poster your reply to was saying about getting to airport quicker/on time?

Seems obvious - because he wants to eat, shop, and then go to a movie when he gets there.

I usually stay in the TST area. The underground stations are everywhere so normally i can check-out, walk out onto the street and down into the subway very quickly. Straight onto the MTR( or is it MRT? i mix up HK and Taipei's subways). This is also probably the cheapest way. HK$20? i can't remember. I would take this over the bus because there are no traffic jams on the underground.

If you have never been to HK taking the bus from the airport can be almost tour like as it get into Kowloon and HK proper so worth it for that reason, if its not rush hour or if you are happy for it to be a bit slow.

The dedicated airport express rail link is the fastest way when you are on it but the station might not be convenient. Factor in getting to Central or Olympic stations and it might not be much quicker than the tube.

If you go to Tung Chung, it's essentially the same line as the airport express with a few more stops but at a fraction of the price. There's a mall there with outlets and then you can take a cheap and quick cab to the airport. It comes out at about half the price of the airport express.

Of course one could say that if you can afford to take a plane to HK, you can afford to take the airport expressgigglem.gif

I understood that bit, my question related more to the previous poster who said he nearly missed a flight because it took too long to get to the airport.

Never mind it was adressed.

I lived on Lantau island for a couple of years while working in HK, and even a month in Tung Chung while looking for apartment to live

I liked Tung Chung, close to airport, good mtr access and it was nice to take the ferry across to Tuen Mun for a wander around the new Territories

Normally i don't linger in Tung Chung much. I may go to the supermarket for some British type bits like sherbet dib dabs and stuff you don't see in Thailand. Might enjoy something at Deli France. Just put that info out for anyone who isn't aware of that route to airport. Say its check-out day but your flight isn't till 21:00 you could go that way and watch a movie? do a pink dolphin trip? You don't need a taxi to the airport either. You will rarely wait more than a few minutes for the next bus to to the terminal. If you weighed down with luggage this might not be perfect but when i am in HK i am normally traveling pretty light.

Good info and good advice.

Supermarket range has obviously improove a bit since I last there!
