Insuring My Motorcycle In Thailand

Featured Replies

I've a Honda Wave 125, which is just a little over two-and-a-half-years old. When I bought the bike I also bought it with fire and theft insurance, but have since let this policy lapse.

Recently there has been a spate of thefts in our area, so I took my bike back to the Honda dealership and asked for it to be reinsured against fire and theft. The dealership say that no Thai insurance company will insure a bike which is over three-years-old against fire and theft.

Can anybody confirm that this is this case with all Thai insurance companies, please?

It seems a little odd, compared to what I’m used to back home.

Why are you only buying fire & theft coverage? Is it laid up whilst you are out of the country?

If you are using it in LOS what happens when you run over Somchai or run into a new hiso Merc ?

Will you be able to sort your way through the Thai legal system and pay any awards and legal costs.

It really is folly not to have a good policy in force and I see no reason why a Thai insurance company will not issue a more comprehensive policy for a bike over 3 yoa.

Pay the modest amount of Baht this costs and sleep easy.

TBWG :o

aka "First Class Insurance" pays for about anything you can think of.
