BANGKOK: -- A security guard at The Address Asoke reportedly used a master key card to enter a woman's condo, with footage of the incident circulated online last night.

In the video, posted by the victim's family, a man in a guard uniform enters a room on the 42nd floor at 5:50 minute mark. Fifteen minutes later the woman who lives there runs out of her room in panic, holding a nightstand lamp, before going down to seek help at the lobby.[read more...]

what does the video posted have to do with the story? huh.png

At 5:49 of the video you see the guard approach her door. He spends a couple minutes outside checking for noise/lights and then at 7:37 he enters her condo.

At 19:22 she runs out and stands in front of the door holding an electric lamp. She looks around for a bit then moves down the hallways (towards the camera) then takes the elevator to the lobby.

At 20:18 the guard sneaks out of the room and heads into the stairwell.

At 21:11 the guard comes out of the stairwell and (presumably) takes a different elevator to the lobby.

At 26:01 she comes out of the elevator, with the same guard ! (She didn't realize it was the same guy that had just broke into her condo !)

At 31:05 they come out of her condo and head to the elevator. Didn't see anything after that

whistling.gif Just for clarification such an incident happened to me in a hotel in the U.S. a couple of years ago.

However, I never felt threatened..... and also I am a male and the person who came into my room was also a male.

The way it happened.... I was a guest at this hotel, and I was supposed to check out but for other reasons I asked to extend my stay one day.

The daytime desk clerk agreed to let me stay one more night..... but forgot to indicate that on my guest record.

So the night security manager saw that my room, which was shown as vacant showed someone sleeping in the room.

So the night manager and a security guard used the master key to enter my room while I was sleeping, asking me what was I doing there in what was supposedly a vacant room.

I woke up from a sound sleep with the night manager and an armed security guard demanding to know who I was and what in the blank was I doing there anyhow.

The situation was resolved in a few minutes when the night manager checked the records and saw that the day desk clerk just forgot to update the records and that I was actually cleared for another nights stay but due to the day desk clerk's error it was not properly entered into the hotel records.

The night manager was quite apologetic for disturbing me.

The Address is an expensive err... address. And this happens. Sighs... Got to talk to my owner to put double locks on them doors. And my condo isn't at some fancy-mancy location. Sheesh...

If your'e renting you would be surprised how many people have keys to your room and how lax in the way they keep these keys.

My Wife rents out rooms and many folk have key access

Sure just a lock is not enough, it has to be possible to bolt the door from the inside, or at least the system with the small chain which allows the door to be opened just a little bit. I am reluctant to accept hotel rooms where this is lacking.

Why she kept the room open at 5:10 AM in the morning ? The security should be well known that there are cameras to capture his activity, some in between information is missing.... rolleyes.gif

She did not keep the door open the security guard used a master card...

Having worked on Key Card Systems for hotels and student accommodation I do understand not all systems are the same, but to me a contractor should only be issued with a card with the bare minimum of privileges and the card should have a short life.

To me a contractor should only have a card for:

  • Selected communal doors and staff areas
  • Should only have a maximum duration of a day or possibly a week
  • Limited to working hours
  • For contractors needing access to guest rooms a one shoot card valid for one day, can only open a door once, normally only issued if the room is empty, if the room is occupied the contractor should be escorted by a member of staff.

We also had a system that the card would have to be revalidated after so many hours, that meant hotel staff would have to report to security to get their cards validated before starting a shift.

Never recommended key card system for condos.

My last condo project used a removable core system. The key supplier was contracted to replace the cores for unit owners, giving each owner a new set of keys.

Is it me or is that video 1 hour long? I'm not even going to bother.

Man can be seen at 5 min 50 sec, girl at 20 min mark.

You actually watched the whole thing? Man, you really are bored, huh?

No, I fast forwarded it and found a couple of movements. I didn't get to some of the later action that others pointed out in subsequent posts.

You must be even sadder than me, because you have nothing better to do than make asinine posts like this.

Why shouldn't she leave the door unlocked...................because she has security and video surveillance she should expect to be safe,

Video was changed.

I saw it this afternoon and the video was a 1 minute bit of nonsense.

It's well established, hotels as a porous as a sieve, many people have access, even with electronic key cards.

This come from a long-term previous senior manager of one of the biggest high profile 5 star hotels in the world.

He also mentioned there are gangs of hotel thieves everywhere who know many ways to get into rooms, how to distract maids, how to get out without paying the bill etc.

Even the throw over 'horse shoe lock' inside the door (which many folks think is totally safe) can be opened. I know because years back I was staying in a 5 star hotel in Karachi, Pakistan. It was during a time when westerners were being kidnapped for ransom.

The hotel manager insisted that I give them a time for a wake up call. I did but when they called I was too lazy to answer. Within maybe 2 minutes there was a commotion at the door, they opened the door as far as possible because of the horse show throw over thing and inserted a snake shaped steel pole and quickly flipped the horse show lock open and ran into the room.

They were in panic, because I didn't answer the wake up call they assumed someone had got into the room and kidnapped me.

The manager also appeared quickly and said, 'please answer the wake up call quickly so we know you are safe'.
