Lite Beer Posted May 23, 2015 Share Posted May 23, 2015 AirAsia plane shudders to a halt in Phuket bomb scareEakkapop Thongtub PHUKET: A language teacher in Phuket faces up to five years in jail and a fine of up to B200,000 for making a false bomb threat on an AirAsia aircraft about to take off from Phuket International Airport this morning (May22).The pilot on board AirAsia Flight FD3002 aborted takeoff after he was told of the risk of a bomb being on board the plane.Ms Phanarat Nopphakhun, 38, was taken into custody after she reportedly told a flight attendant on AirAsia Flight FD3002 that she had two water bottles stowed in her luggage in the undercarriage.“Water can be a bomb, you know,” she reportedly told the attendant.Flight FD3002 was scheduled to take off at 8:40am, bound for Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok.The plane was taxiing toward the runway when the attendant informed the pilot, who brought the aircraft to a swift halt on the tarmac.Passengers were evacuated from the aircraft, which was then moved a safe distance from the main terminal.The bomb squad was called in to search the plane. Explosive Ordnance Disposal officers also had all the luggage hauled off the aircraft and searched, and they searched the passengers’ carry-on bags.No explosives were found.Ms Phanarat told police that she had told the flight attendant there was a bomb on the plane because she felt that the luggage inspectors at the airport were rude to her when they inspected her bag.Ms Phanarat and her companion Swiss national Walter Jurn Leisinger, 60, were taken to the nearby Tha Chat Chai Police Station for questioning.Police confirmed that she has been charged over the incident. Just curious ..... She was charged with making a false bomb threat. So she would be guilty if she said there was a bomb when there wasn't one. It was all the buzz in the airport but we figured we'd find it was a farang or Chinese citizen. Wrong again. Believe she'll feel the full force of the law because this is dealt with outside (but in conjunction with) local authority. While international air laws are still disconnected in large measure, a bomb threat (or any inference thereof) is taken very seriously these days. The passenger compartment which carries the passengers is of course the "Carriage" (that which carries the passengers). The belly of the aircraft which contains the luggage hold and anything under the passenger compartment (The Carriage) is therefore referred to as the undercarriage. Since an aircraft has only one undercarriage, "undercarriage" is correct. Origin goes back to the days of horse drawn carriages. I'd like to an investigation into how much those security agents profit by confiscating and reselling bottles of cosmetics, perfumes and toiletries. Even 200ml of hydrogen peroxide in a water bottle, mixed with reactants that can be contained in cosmetics perfumes and toiletries containers can do a lot of damage to an aircraft. A 2006 terrorist plot to bring down 7 large aircraft using these materials was thwarted, This is the reason confiscation and at least not letting the passenger taking the bottles into the passenger compartment.
