"Beware of being Political Tool”, NCPO warns students

BANGKOK, 23 May 2015 (NNT) - National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) spokesman Winthai Suvaree has warned students of being political tool. Any students who re-commit such an illegal action will receive stronger punishment.

The NCPO’s warning came after 38 students were arrested because they held a symbolic anti-coup protest in front of the Bangkok Art & Culture Centre in Bangkok on Friday 22 May 2015 to mark the first anniversary of the 2014 coup.

Winthai reiterated that officials did not use violent measures with the students when arresting them but only asked them for cooperation.

“After officials explained them [the students] the need to maintain peace and order for moving the country forward, all of them were released. Ill-intentioned persons who try to tamper students to join such an illegal activity must be stringently prosecuted,” said Winthai.

The spokesman confirmed the NCPO welcomed opinions of all students and people but the opinions should be made in appropriate ways with no harm to the society. He admitted that currently there are persons who hold malice intention trying to use students as their political nominees. This has negative impact on the country.

“The NCPO commits with rule of law and attitude adjustment with those holding different opinions without violence," stressed Winthai.

So in other words, 'We welcome your opinion just as long as we don't have to take the blindest bit of notice of it.'

Pure oppression and the denial of even the most basic of human rights. It's time the UN revoked membership and started piling on the sanctions.

A great shame the previous government did not take a similar stance when Suthep took to the streets, then General P may have been enjoying his retirement instead of having the chore of being PM.

Would you say the same thing about the BKK riots in 2010 when the Red Shirts took to the streets?

Don't worry Mr. Winthai, after a couple more "education reforms", and a little more attitude adjustments by Sergeants in school buses tomorrows "intellectual elite" will be easy to deal with.

I wonder how much he paid for his name...

Subtle as a house brick. Taksin used the rural poor as political tools, not university students.

Apologies, I missed out the word 'educated' when referring to the rural poor coffee1.gif

1. I'm curious, have any of the above commenters actually suffered some great hardship since the coup? I mean, of course, something other than losing your god given right to bitch and moan just for the sake of it.

2. Love the video I saw today of the "student protestors" getting arrested. VERY well rehearsed, VERY nice production value, and brilliant performances. Good thing there just happen to several high quality cameras on hand - and an editing suite - but haven't they learned anything from the Amercians? You got to figure out a way to get pepper sprayed, or even better, beaten vigourously by the cops AND catch THAT on camera!

Still: BEST COUP EVER!

Is it me, or does this guy Winthai assume that University students cannot think for themselves! Some of the greatest discoveries and researches have come from the original thoughts of brilliant undergraduates. University is the place to discuss and formulate new and interesting thoughts in a place of intellectual freedom. Unless things have radically changed since I was a student, most Universities are a hot bed for discussions about political change and students are anti authority and will certainly not be used by anyone. Of course, as a career soldier, he would have never had an original thought as he has always been the "tool" of others with a higher rank! Let the students speak, after all it's their future, not some old soldier's!

So, what you're saying is; you find it difficult to believe that, in Thailand, it would be possibly to find a couple dozen dumb dumb Thai University students to manipulate for your own purposes? Hmmm.

NCPO needn't worry the students can see which way the wind is blowing , the only tool used in this exercise has been the likes of the NCPO, for without them the students wouldn't be protesting . coffee1.gif

How many years old does this 'student' look to you, hmm? Became MD, specialised twice, done pharmacology, now toxicology, driving to the uni with his two student kids studying at the same institution, maybe?

But it's all genuine and a-political, unbiased, not organised, nor sponsored, ...in your eyes. You're so right, yeah sure!

'There is no worse blind than the one who doesn't want to see'! There'd be an apology for you, when you'd just be another victim of Dr. T's vicious professional spinners' agit prop. But when you'd actively and knowingly participate in the spreading of such lies, you should be cursed for it!

'Your opinion', you mean those few students' own, do you? What a baboon are you to fall for that trick? Don't you really know any better?

There is nothing more onerous than the military being used as a political tool.

Are you sure? I thought the Shins have been costing a lot more to Siam/Thailand, and the bill is still running up...

What a silly reaction, not a frog's farth worth! Get your thumb out of your mouth, step down from your mamy's lap, go for a first walk outside with her, but hold her hand firmly, it's rough for over-protected kids in the real world... wai2.gif
