Southern militants burn car tyres to lure authorities into traps

SONGKHLA: -- Southern militants continued their subversive activities with the burning of car tyres at more than 10 locations in Sabayoi and Thepa districts of Songkhla province Monday night.

But security authorities said the burning of car tyres was believed to be traps to lure authorities to inspect the scenes where they would lay in wait to ambush with Gunfire’s and roadside bombs.

They recalled an incident on May 18 when car tyres were burnt on the road in Thepa district, prompting village volunteers to rush to the scenes.

The volunteers were injured in a roadside bomb explosion.

Security officials said car tyres were burnt at several locations at Tambon Sakom in Thepa, and at Tambon Janae, Tambon Pien and Tambon Ban Nod in Sabayoi district.

Security was tightened last night and forensic police were entering the scenes this morning to collect evidence.

And despite the traps being laid on 19 previous occasions, security forces keep falling for the same old trick!

The so-called "village volunteers" are likely the "paramilitary security forces" that have killed innocent civilians recently in a number of unprovoked attacks on Islamic schools and mosques believeing insurgents present. But the military has apologized.

Apparently the insurgents haven't.
