Transport Ministry will propose a modified route in MRT orange line

BANGKOK, 27 May 2015 (NNT) - Transport Minister ACM Prajin Janthong says his ministry will propose a modification to the MRT Orange Line subway to the meeting of the Commission for the Management of Land Traffic on June 10.

The minister suggested the section that starts from the Cultural Center to Minburi be changed to Rama 9 Road to Minburi instead, to minimize the construction cost.

He said if the commission prefers the original route, the project can be constructed right after the Cabinet approves it.

However, if the commission opts for a new route, the project needs a new Environmental Impact Assessment study which must be reported to the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board for consideration again. The new plan would prompt a delay to the construction of the Orange Line by 6 - 18 months, ACM Prajin said.

According to the minister, the original Cultural Center - Minburi route will cover 21 kms costing 95 billion baht while the new Rama 9 - Minburi route will cover 20 kms requiring a budget of 91 billion baht. The whole Orange Line subway runs from Talingchan southern district to Minburi suburban district in northeastern Bangkok.

I wonder which of the Generals goons own land near the proposed modified" route ?

I doubt any general own land along the modified route, but there has been heavy ads about a new CBD...and an added mass transit line would add support to the claim...

The original route, from Din Daeng then skewing to Thai Cultural center, then skewing back to Rama 9 seems an inefficient way to lay a mass transit line.

Logic would dictate laying it under the main road from Din Daeng to Rama 9 towards Ram.

The skewing was perhaps over a piece of land that landed a politician a jail term?

Actually the revised plan will probably end up costing more, as a new Environmental Impact Study, and everything that goes with it, will surely cost an arm and a leg. So stay with the original plan, especially if it means having the project finished 6 - 18 months earlier.

Heck, go with the original plan. What's an extra 4.5 Billion Baht (shared) between friends?

the difference is not 4,5 Billion,

the old route was planned with Thaksin land !

final price as usual in Thailand will doubble to 190 Bill for sure;

(( If gen Prim will not - and I faer thai is so corrupt, he will not get it under controll- and rubb out ) )
