Man killed and his wife injured in gun attack in Pattani



PATTANI: -- A motorcycle mechanic was shot dead and his wife seriously wounded in a broad daylight gun attack in Pattani’s Nong Chik district Thursday morning.

Police said that the two victims, 28-year old Pornpipit Yodying and his Common Law wife, Mrs Areerat Maneerat, were riding on a motorcycle on their way to work in Muang district when two men, riding on another motorbike, approached them from behind and then the pillion rider pulled out a handgun and shot several times on the couple.

Mr Pornpipit was shot dead at the scene and his wife seriously wounded by gunshots and was later rushed to the provincial hospital.

Police said that it was too premature to conclude that the attack was perpetrated by militants. Investigation is underway to determine to motive of the killing, they added.

This could just as easily be a business dispute or silencing witnesses related to human trafficking, or road rage, or a plain vanilla robbery. And those are just the possibilities based on today's headlines around Thailand. Could have been a jealous ex, or a loan shark, or a bookie, or... or...

Thailand is fast becoming a gun society like America crime seems to be endemic and I think it is going to get worse .
