webfact
Phuket death bungee ordered closed indefinitelyEakkapop ThongtubPhuket death bungee ordered closed indefinitelyPHUKET: -- The World Bungee Jump where a Kuwaiti tourist died on Wednesday (May 27) has been ordered closed until further notice. The order came from Patong Mayor, Chalermluk Kebsap, following an inspection of the bungee jump site yesterday (May 28).She has also ordered officials to inspect all equipment at the facility and ensure that the facility meets new laws and regulations on bungee jumps which will come into force in June.At 2pm yesterday, Kathu District Chief, Sayan Chanachaiyawong and Ms Chalermluk inspected the bungee site on Sainamyen Rd in Patong following the death of 25-year-old Abdullah Adel Kadhbahman who on Wednesday fell from the bungee jump and later died at Patong Hospital. It is believed that Mr Kadhmbahman died because the bungee cord ropes attached to his ankle either slipped off or broke whilst he was rebounding from his jump, causing him to fall and hit the ground surrounding a lake where the jump is located. (See story here)A man reported to be the owner of World Bungee Jump, Weenas Janwibolkul, took officials around the facility and also showed them the place where Mr Kadhbahman hit the ground. He told officials that he did not witness the incident but felt very sorry for the victim and his family.“We will take full responsibility. We have taken care of all medical expenses and are waiting to hear from the victim’s family to see what else we can do.“We have been open for 13 years and this is the first time we have had to deal with a fatal accident. “We have had some small accidents previously which have resulted in minor injuries. But safety is our priority here, and before each jump we check all equipment for safety,” he said.A member of staff who witnessed the incident, Manu Nilmin, said that before each jump staff always check the equipment. He also said that the equipment is replaced every three to four months.“The incident happened when the victim plunged the second time. He was at a height of about 30 metres when the ankle straps came off. We don’t know how it happened,” said Mr Manu.Kathu district chief Mr Sayan said that everybody is sorry for the family of the deceased. However, he added that there are currently no laws or regulations covering bungee jumps and that building regulations have been used as a guide for setting up bungee jumps which fall under the jurisdiction of the local tambon. That will change when the new regulations come into force in June.Meanwhile, the Mayor of Kathu, Chaianan Sutthikul, has denied rumours that he is the real owner of the bungee jump. After the accident people were seen at the bungee facility wearing T-shirts with his name on them. He said they were employees of the Sainamyen Boxing Stadium, which is next door.Source: http://www.thephuketnews.com/phuket-death-bungee-ordered-closed-indefinitely-52532.php-- Phuket News 2015-05-

Pattaya28
Usual conflicting story. Did the line break ? or did the line slip from his ankles ? All written in 1 story. Who writes this nonsense ? Does the author know what he is writing ? This is an insult to be fed this non-news.

Does the author know what he is writing ? This is an insult to be fed this non-news. Police and other officials are trying to determine the cause, they simply don't know yet. That is why the journo wrote "It is believed that Mr Kadhmbahman died because the bungee cord ropes attached to his ankle either slipped off or broke whilst he was rebounding from his jump". So you think it is non news that this bungee jump operation is closed? Because that is what this article is about, not the cause of the accident. With all due respect, if something "broke" that should be fairly obvious to see ... if there was no "damage", then it's possible it "slipped off". Interesting to note that the UK is reporting this as the wire "breaking" ... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3100476/Tourist-suffers-fatal-broken-neck-ankle-bonds-snap-bungee-jumps-60-metre-platform-holiday-Phuket.html

The first reports stated a wire broke, that has since changed to 'it broke or came otherwise off'. So sounds like the Daily Mail simply used the first story and stopped their enquiries into the accident at that.
pinkpanther99
What about criminal charges against the operator of this bungee? Manslaughter, gross negligence? Probably just a slap on the wrist and a small fine. This guy will be working as a tuk tuk driver next week.

MobileContent
Their is no insurance for some homemade bungee jumping as no insurance is that stupid to issue a policy to those kind of fly by night operations. The only one of which I know have insurance is Flight of the Gibbon and some ZipLine operators. Bungee jumping has no insurance but if the Kuwaiti would have bought a Travel Insurance or lets hope he book his flight on a credit card he might be covered. Maroon Watcher
Today I read about another Gang Rape, where the assailants if under 18 will be "let off" A country where school girls are sexually assaulted and gang raped "cos they were pretty" And this story of the uninsured. Not to mention the cover ups in case mummy and daddy find out(so you will lose your/their pocket money...) Its TIME Thailand GREW UP! Yes be relaxed, be Buddhist, be easy going BUT within the law of civilised adults... (If they don't want that then the law of Peter Pan - Right & Wrong!its way better than the present system!!) slipperylobster
It would be such a simple thing to look at the line, and determine if it broke. My thoughts are that it must have broke....dry rotted maybe.
shaurene
They said no insurance if that is true then it is the local administration that is at real fault, if insurance was compulsory which it should have been an insurance certificate should have been registered before it was allowed to operate. So it is possible that the town official is the owner, if you know what I mean.
