Lite Beer Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Parcel senders are required to show ID cards or passports BANGKOK: -- Starting as of Tuesday June 2, senders of parcels through the Thai post office are required to show their ID cards or passports if they are foreigners otherwise the parcels will not be accepted for delivery. Mrs Waraporn Chaitiamwong, manager of organizational communications of the Thai Postal Service Company, said that the new measure was a follow-up response to the announcements of the Prime Minister’s Office to stem the use of postal services such as parcels for drugs smuggling. The announcements make it mandatory for senders of parcels to show their ID cards or passports to officials at the postal counters so their personal information will be recorded. Seligne2 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Damn! Now I will have to get a Thai to send my drug-laden packages!
DavisH Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Damn! Now I will have to get a Thai to send my drug-laden packages! A Thai will still need to show ID.
JoeLing Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Bugger, my ID card and Passport is in the parcel. Embassy told me to send it by EMS and, how will I pick up my new Passport 1
sweatalot Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Another discrimination. I guess more parcels with drugs are sent by Thai than by foreigners. Reminds me on the report some time ago in Chiangmai that police have to watch foreigners for dangerous driving - as if it were not the Thai drivers who need that extra care

Reminds me on the report some time ago in Chiangmai that police have to watch foreigners for dangerous driving - as if it were not the Thai drivers who need that extra care Why do you feel it is discriminatory? Thais are required to carry ID cards and foreigner are required to carry a copy of their passport details. Not too much of a problem really?.
Lammbock Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I can confirm the above news. Today I need to present my Passport at Thai Post Office, Nana. Luckily I got it with me since I had other business to take care of where my Passport was required earlier today. I don't know if they accept Thai Driver license?
Torrens54 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Not a problem. In fact, an excellent idea and yes, good question, will a Thai MDL be okay?
cashlamb99 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 This law will stop a lot of foregners from buying and selling goods.
ukrules Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I don't remember reading all the news reports about people being caught mailing drugs over the years. Maybe I missed them. 1
BSJ Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I've sent a number of parcels using the post office and have always needed ID.....what's the difference?
webfact Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Thailand Post: ID card now required for parcel serviceBANGKOK, 3 June 2015 (NNT) – Thailand Post has enforced a requirement for customers using parcel service to present their identification card as a method to deter the delivery of illicit substances. An announcement has been issued by Thailand Post, saying the company has imposed a new rule under which senders of packages must be able to show the staff their ID card, or passport if they are foreigners. If they fail to do so, the service would be denied. The company claimed that the measure, effective from today onwards, is in line with the policy of the Prime Minister’s Office concerning the prevention and suppression of narcotic drugs. The policy categorizes package delivery businesses as establishments under strict narcotic control and obligated to record the identity of every customer.Thailand Post reiterated that narcotic drugs are illegal and cannot be delivered by post. If detected in any package, the items may be confiscated for use as evidence in taking legal action against the sender.-- NNT 2015-06-03
Argus Tuft Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I've sent a number of parcels using the post office and have always needed ID.....what's the difference? I have never been asked for ID when sending a parcel through a post office in Thailand, domestic or overseas. Most recently, sent an EMS parcel to Spain on Friday, no ID needed then either.
Strangebrew Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Now you have to use Bus to deliver your drugs? Is this for letters too? Just curious?
ezzra Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Crap... now I have to get my carrier pigeon, speckled Jim, out of well deserved retirement to do the work...
stevenl Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 This law will stop a lot of foregners from buying and selling goods. Why specifically foreigners? And would it stop anyone from buying goods?
metisdead Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 A post containing a derogatory generalization toward the present government has been removed as well as the appropriate reply.

jimmysjo Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I don't know if they accept Thai Driver license? Well, they do accept a Thai DL when picking up packages from abroad, so I guess they would too when sending. And all you Thai bashers here. Read it. A foreigner must show a passport, and a Thai must show an ID. Same same.
JAG Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 This law will stop a lot of foregners from buying and selling goods. No, it will just mean that they will need to produce their passports! Of course if the goods are dodgy, or they are running a mail order business without a work permit...
dotpoom Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Damn! Now I will have to get a Thai to send my drug-laden packages!A Thai will still need to show ID. "if they are foreigners otherwise the parcels will not be accepted for delivery". A Thai is not a foreigner.
oztaurus Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I've sent a number of parcels using the post office and have always needed ID.....what's the difference? I have never been asked for ID when sending a parcel through a post office in Thailand, domestic or overseas. Most recently, sent an EMS parcel to Spain on Friday, no ID needed then either. Funnily enough I did send some drugs to England yesterday (June 2nd) by EMS..... well actually it was Thai herbal medicinal drugs - declared as such on the customs section of the form, and no mention of ID required - though I did notice that the Thai before me in the queue handed over their ID automatically
sarayoot Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Hello, If I used EMS INTERNATIONAL from Thailand to send to USA, can I have show my passeport ? thank you
