NLA scheduled to hold new sessions during June 11-12

BANGKOK, 8 June 2015 (NNT) - The National Legislative Assembly is scheduled to hold new sessions to discuss various draft laws during June 11 and 12.


NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai on Saturday issued an order calling for the 34th and the 35th sittingsof members of the legislature at the Parliament.

Included in the agenda of the upcoming sessions are the deliberation of the draft amendment to the Counter-Terrorism Financing Act and the draft amendment to the Communicable Disease Act, which related committees have completed the vetting process.

The NLA will also be updated on the report by a special committee tasked with the study on the enforcement of the Petroleum Act and the Petroleum Income Tax Act.

In addition, NLA member Wallop Tangkananurak will ask the Prime Minister about the proposal on the adjustment or the cancellation of the Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment.

Phetchaburi:- A Thai driver, three Hong Kong tourists and four other Hong Kong tourists were injured when their van overturned and fell into the ditch in the middle of a bypass road in Phetchaburi's Cha-am district Sunday evening, police said.

Singha chairman Chamnong passes away

BANGKOK: -- CHAMNONG Bhirombhakdi, chairman of Singha Corp, whose Boon Rawd Brewery Co manufactures Singha beer and other brands, passed away on Saturday at the age of 87, leaving behind the legacy of the country's oldest beer brewery.

Singha Corp was founded in 1933 by his father, Phraya Bhirombhakdi. The company has long been a market leader in the beer business.

Among the richest

It now has a diversified range of interests, including in non-alcoholic beverages and property development.

Ranked as one of the country's richest people by Forbes magazine with a net worth of over US$2 billion (Bt68 billion), Chamnong was hospitalised in January. As chairman, Chamnong played a largely ceremonial role while management was left to the company's president, his nephew Santi Bhirombhakdi.

Indian tourist assaulted for allegedly using fake banknotes

Chiang Rai:- An Indian tourist was arrested after he was assaulted by several vendors in Mueang Chiang Rai district late Saturday night. The vendors claimed that the Indian man tried to buy their goods with Bt500 banknotes.


Pol Lt Gen Worayuth Kanthasorn, an inspector on duty of Mueang Chiang Rai police station, was informed of the assault of the tourist at 10 pm Saturday. He was informed that a foreign tourist was being attacked by vendors on the walking street in Chiang Rai downtown.
