webfact Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Jet fighter skids off runway in KoratBANGKOK: -- A F16 jet fighter skidded off runway while the pilot was testing its engine before a routine training flight at the Air Force's First Wing airbase in Nakhon Ratchasima province yesterday afternoon. The jet fighter ran out into the runway unexpectedly while the pilot was still in the seat. But as the plane skidded and ploughed into the taxiway, the pilot managed to ejected the seat out in time before it would flip over and rest on the ditch by the side of the taxiway. The pilot was unhurt.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/jet-fighter-skids-off-runway-in-korat -- Thai PBS 2015-06-25
chiang mai Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 "The jet fighter ran out into the runway unexpectedly", don't you just hate it when they do that!
Jessi Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Take it down to Somsak's panel shop he will have it back on the run way in no time.
Jessi Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 The last one that crashed the pilot didnt have time to eject.
jaidam Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Brake failure is SO common in Thailand Could do with a reserve brake, something I saw on TV once. They had a panel cut out on the drivers side floor, so the driver could use his feet as an extra brake. Usually accompanied by some amusing squeaky sound and boistrous shouting "yabba dabba doo"
NongKhaiKid Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 The pilot, who was unhurt, fled the scene and is being hunted by military authorities.
Jessi Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 The pilot, who was unhurt, fled the scene and is being hunted by military authorities. They found him in the local Karaoke drunk.
Jessi Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 I live right under their flight path in Korat, for take off & landing. They frighten the SH!T out of me. Watching them drive on the road is bad enough not to mention the shopping trollies in Tesco.
Pimay1 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 the pilot was testing its engine It appears the engine worked perfectly.
noikrit Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 the pilot was testing its engine It appears the engine worked perfectly. And the ejection seat ....
bamnutsak Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 The pilot, who was unhurt, fled the scene and is being hunted by military authorities. Last seen applying for a job at THAI.
colinneil Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Looking at the photos, looks like a very old decrepid plane to me.
bamnutsak Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) Amazing they haven't painted over the RTAF and Thai flag with black paint yet? http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-24012344 Edited June 25, 2015 by bamnutsak
lamplaimattlad Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Looking at the photos, looks like a very old decrepid plane to me. I have to agree ,looks like it hasn't been used for quite some time
monkey4u Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Looking at the photos, looks like a very old decrepid plane to me. I have to agree ,looks like it hasn't been used for quite some time Its not an old plane That's the new camouflage paint scheme Now they can hide the planes in ditches Just incase the bank wants to repo it
jimstar1 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 The pilot, who was unhurt, fled the scene and is being hunted by military authorities. They found him in the local Karaoke drunk. Refusing to pay his 20000 Baht bar tab
Oziex1 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 I've always like the idea of Air Force trained professionals flying passenger aircraft after they leave the service, here in Thailand I'm not so sure.
chainarong Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Memo :When testing Trustpower, before applying thrust power check park brake is applied, If in doubt don't power up .Always X-cross check before this procedure.
ALLSEEINGEYE Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 the pilot was testing its engine It appears the engine worked perfectly. The brakes....not so much lol
xerostar Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 That damn "unexpected" factor again !! It can get you killed unexpectedly !! It would be funny if it wasn't so serious ..
Ocicat Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Maybe they should put ekection seats in cars in Thailand------probably save a lot of lived. PS: what do you call a 25 year old Thai motor bike driver--------//Luckey
LuckyNo4 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 If the way these people drive their motorbikes and cars is anything to go by this doesn't surprise me in the least.
ratcatcher Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Looking at the photos, looks like a very old decrepid plane to me. That's because it's lying in a ditch with a broken nose feeling sorry for itself. Air force types use the term "ditched the plane" when there's a major problem, in this case the pilot followed procedure correctly. Anyway, I am sure the RTAF can dig up a few more operable units.
JohnOFphon Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 The pilot, who was unhurt, fled the scene and is being hunted by military authorities. That is the funniest thing I have read in a very long time!! Even funnier when you envision the pilot jumping out of the ejection seat and running across the rice field...
Jimlove Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Looking at the photos, looks like a very old decrepid plane to me. I have to agree ,looks like it hasn't been used for quite some time Agree - look like something from a Scrapyard or War museum ...
