BANGKOK: -- Police investigating a string of bomb explosions in Sungai Golok district of Narathiwat province which three people were killed last weekend have traced a bomb suspect to his home in Waeng district but now fled into Malaysia's Rantau Panjang town in Kelantan state.

Sungai Golok district police chief Pol Col Komgat Suwankam disclosed today that examinations of video footages of explosions in eight places on July 10 and 11 clearly showed five bomb suspects were engaged in the bombings that killed three people and wounded eight others.

He said but only at three places where the video footages were clear enough for the police to identify and trace them.

He said police also questioned more than 10 witnesses and were ready to seek court warrant for the arrest of one suspect.

He said the wanted suspect had planted bombs at several places and at each place he went, he changed his clothes but did not change his shoes, and still used the same motorcycle.

The motorcycle carried a registration sticker on the front mud guard bearing the Malaysian letters, he said.

This led the police to trace the suspect to his home in Waeng district.

He said the suspect was believed to have fed across the border to Rantau Panjang town in Kelantan state.

Police believed he would return to celebrate the Muslim Hari Rayo festival marking the end of the Ramadan fast in the Thai border town.

Meanwhile Royal Thai Police deputy commissioner Pol Gen Jaktip Chaichinda is currently in Narathiwat to follow up progress in the bombing cases investigation.

He will inspect explosion scenes and visit the residents affected by the explosions and fires.
