LarryBird Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Story here: http://www.npr.org/2015/07/18/424122249/theyre-no-1-u-s-wins-math-olympiad-for-first-time-in-21-years I'm sure some will be happy to note that some of the US team is of Asian decent.
NancyL Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 It would be interesting to know the actual math problems they had to solve. I saw these kids roaming around Kad Suan Kaew mall during breaks in the competition, which was held at the Lotus Hotel. I hope they had a chance to see more of Chiang Mai than that mall!
Ghostnigel Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 It was held in Thailand....they bought all the answers. Thailand also tried to buy the answers, but when they were told it's 520 baht per question....they couldn't work out how much they had to pay....lol

Problem 2: Determine all triples (a,b,c) of positive integers such that each of the numbers (ab - c), (bc - a), and (ca - b] is a power of 2. (A power of two is an integer in the form of 2n, where 2n is a non-negative integer.) https://www.imo-official.org/problems.aspx

losworld Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Really doesn't mean much. I think what is more important is how the kids in the schools are scoring not how an elite team is doing. It's like having a champion olympic team and a nation of everweight armchair quarterbacks.

Nice job marginalizing someone else's accomplishment, btw. Very "TV Chiang Mai Forum" of you.
