company that checks for mold

Featured Replies

I rent an apartment out and there was a bit of water damage in the past.. can see some water stains around some of the corners. I have concerns there might be mold as when I leave and go home for a while my allergies really kick in while staying in the apartment but after 2 or 3 weeks they subside, probably beginning to tolerate it again..

Is there some companies in Chiang Mai that will come to your condo, check for mold and if so what kind of prices, what can I expect them doing etc?

thanks

Yes there are. After the floods in 2012??? I forget now... We had mold growing everywhere after the floods; black, green, white fungus - you name it. It was disgusting. There were a couple of companies that came soliciting in our moobaan and we also contacted a couple of other companies for estimates. The lowest estimate was about 28,000 Baht. I doubt they were offering anything we couldn't do ourselves.

My wife and I ended up taking everything out of the kitchen, the dining room table, bar stools, (really almost everything but the couches and chairs), and putting on gloves and a mask and cleaning everything with bleach solution and leaving it to dry outside in the sun for a couple of days. Then we did the same everywhere downstairs, we even wiped down the teak with bleach solution. Didn't seem to take the finish off at all. Problem solved. There were people doing the same thing all over the moobaan.

As Elekrified said bleach is your friend, spray the effected areas,

and scrub them clean, wipe dry, leave the windows open to get

some fresh air into the condo,if you did find a company to do it,

they would most likely just do the same and charge you a lot.

Make sure that the leak that caused the water damage is fixed

or the problem will just return.

They sell the test kits you let sit out overnight for about 10 USD in the States (Home Depot). Without drywall or insulation; it shouldn't be that bad to clean up.

All over the place at Amazon....http://www.amazon.com/First-Alert-MT1-Mold-Detection/dp/B000HYN1DW

A friend in the real estate business says mold is his best friend, because you can demand a big price reduction; and then get out your 40 thb bottle of bleach.

All good. Just curious though where one gets a bottle of pure bleach in Chiang Mai. I think this question has come up before and I don't recall any simple, clear answers. I would appreciate one, because I need to do some mold cleanup.

I can't say where you get it here, maybe Union Science? Just a thought.

We buy ours from Malaysia (Internet sellers in Hat Yai). We buy DEPEX brand. No fragrances, or other stuff, just Sodium Hypochlorite. 3 X 1 litre bottles, about 100 Baht + 20 Baht post.
