I need something that will deter jingjoks.

For the second time the little buggers have shorted out a circuit board in my Smeg oven. Not cheap to replace.

Reading an old 2013 thread, someone suggested mothballs. Any idea where I might buy them in Samui? I am thinking of placing some in the cabinet that houses the oven.

The only way to stop these little chaps is to seal off every point of access, use mozzie netting if ventilation is needed.

My wife pointed out a spray can for geckos in Max valu supermarket in the pest control products the other day. I think it makes them lose the grip and end on the floor and you can sweep them up.

I did wonder about that. The oven slides into a specially made space in the fitted kitchen. I was thinking of putting a couple of mothballs at the back of that space. Outside the oven of course. facepalm.gif

Netting might work as long as it doesn't melt with the heat, but I think most modern ovens are well insulated.

When the Smeg engineer came on a call out, (display not working), as he opened the oven door, there was an almighty bang!!

Sure enough, on inspection, there was a jingjok zapped across the circuit board. Also he pointed out to me, lots of tiny black marks on the circuit board. When I asked him what they were, he replied "Ants".

I have noticed these ants on my Macbook before. They seem to be attracted to the electrical fields. Easy for them to short a printed circuit I imagine.

I was hoping something like mothballs might deter them as well, as these circuit boards have to be ordered from Europe, take ages to arrive, and they are not cheap!

A lean and active cat works extremely well, in my experience !

How does it get into the oven? :)

I've had to resort to mothballs to keep my printer clear after one got zapped & nearly ruined it! They're available at any of the broom & BBQ shops along the road.

With ants use Borax and sugar mixed into a bit of a paste/ syrup consistency and place in jam jar lids or some thing similar... one part Borax, one part sugar say a teaspoon/ tablespoon, with with a little bit of water...

This will kill the ant colony in a few days... better than attacking your Mac or other electrical equipment... or even you~ !!!

No idea about the Jingjoks, but moth balls would make the place smell like a toilet!bah.gif .... I have heard it is supposed to deter snakes! (outside)

Gai Pharmacy, Maenam, Soi 4 usually has Borax...

For a little time now I used to say to my wife, in fact we are invited in this ants house not the contrary for they are everywhere, every days, all the time, very very tiny one. I'm not mad about it, does not even get too much on my nerves, it's like that nothing more smile.png

BUT...I will try your recipe with Borax, for could I get rid of them it would be a progress for sure thumbsup.gif

I had a gecko short out the washing machine, had to buy a whole new part,

so i placed a small bag of tobacco in there, seems to work.

As for ants,I find the best treatment is ant chalk, looks just like a stick of

chalk,19THB for 12 sticks, we had maybe 4 different species infesting

the kitchen, from tiny ones to big black ones that only came out at night.

chalked a few lines and they were all dead in a couple hours, dead ants

everywhere.better than spraying,especially in kitchen.
