Laptop LCD screen problem (Acer Aspire E1 - 431G)

Had a problem for a few weeks with our Acer Aspire E1 431G laptop screen.

There are a lot of lines on the screen, red stripes ad dots mostly, its worse in areas that should be black which come out as red, I was able to wriggle the screen about a bit and get a clear image but now its taking a lot more wriggling to get it right, the display looks fine when the screen is fully open (almost flat with the keyboard) but when its at a suitable angle for viewing on a desk I get the problem and its getting worse.

It seems it may just be just a loose connection, as the screen when in the right angle is displaying correctly, so is it worth opening it up and having a look for that, or is it more likely to need a complete new lcd panel (in which case I would take it to the service centre for a quote).

Thanks,

I think you're correct is your assertion of a bad connection.

Whether it's just a loose connector which you can fix yourself (but with great care, these things are fragile) or a broken cable / flex PCB which you probably can't fix yourself is the $64,000 question.

To be honest, unless you're a long way from the service centre I would drop the beast in there, the labour costs here are minimal and if they break something, it's their problem.

Thanks Crossy,

Yes theres an Acer service centre not to far away, I will see what they say. Its only just about 2yrs so worth doing, its just how long they take as I dont want to be without for to long which makes me tempted to have a quick look myself.

If you want to give it a try yourself, first do a search on Youtube to see if anyone has a video showing you what to do or the best way to open it up as some laptops can have well hidden screws. Then decide if it's a job for the service centre or not.

Acer service centre said 3-4 days to find the problem then a further week to get the parts if not in stock,

So i opened it up myself and has a look, seems its the cable that needs replacing, I think it is worn in the bend where it passes through the hinge, I have monuvered it into a position whre its working k for the moment but I supspect it will move agian soon, so probably needs a replacement cable.

Since you already know how to access the cable better to order and replace it yourself. Will take a couple of weeks to arrive. No problem with customs when coming from HK/China.

Thanks for that, yes i will do myself just need to expore the side whwre it joins into the main computer, i've only opened up the lccd panel so far.

Will have a look again after I have sorted my new problems since having TOT fiber put it today (re my other thread).
