Can the mi4i use 4G in thailand?

Featured Replies

Ok a 4G phone should be able to log unto any 4G network and have 4G speeds right?

Wrong. Turns out there's bands and also the mhz it runs at.

From here it turns out that thailand only has a single band and it only runs at 2100mhz for both teleco providers.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks

Here's the stats for xiaomi mi4i on gsmarena

http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_4i-7211.php

says it only runs on band3 and 2100mhz isn't supported so it looks like if you use this phone in thailand you won't get 4G speeds but then again who knows just want to know if anyone using this phone can it run 4G in thailand.

As of right now, both DTAC and TrueMove H offer 4G on their 2100 MHz "auction" spectrum. So yes, you'd need a phone which supports this frequency, which is also referred to as Band 1.

You'll also need a 4G-capable SIM, and a mobile data plan which offers 4G.

Most, but not all, phones support this band.

It appear as though that model/version supports both 850 and 2100 MHz 3G, so it would be well suited for DTAC, TrueMove H, and even AIS (2100 MHz only). It also supports 4G/1800 MHz (Band 3) which might be auctioned off in November, and deployed sometime in 2016/2017.

Mi4i is crapware.

Mi4 prices went down, nobody wants to buy Mi4i.

If you want future proof 4g phone, it must support 1800 mhz and 2600 mhz aswell.

you sure? Xiaomi is actually rising up as a company and it's products are pretty good.

If you actually care to read the link i have posted both 1800mhz and 2600 mhz are supported just not the 2100mhz.

yup 3g isn't a problem just that i suppose this phone won't be able to have 4G when you use it in thailand. You know i just have to say touche at the having the 4G plan and the 4G sim beause the majority of people and help staff know that. Fewer people know about the 2100mhz band and what their bands their own phones support. Suppose you ask someone with an ip6 which 4G bands his phone supports he would draw a blank stare about 90% of the time.

So i guess people with 4G phones make sure it supports 2100hz cos that's the only band of 4G thailand has currently. Yup one more piece of info one has to remember on top of the simple 4G sim, 4G data plan.

Mi4i is trimmed down version of Mi4. Bad cpu, bad plastic shell. Too expensive for the hardware it provides.

Perhaps you should wait until Xiaomi officially enters Thailand end of this year (probably?).

Mi4 LTE is 269$ at pandawill while Mi4i is 259$ (and mi4 3g model is 249$ - which was 230$ in Happy hour not long ago)

No need to. I'll just use the 3G

Yes, see screen shot from my MI4i. Please note I have not upgraded my True SIM card yet but this should also work, will update the post when I get one to show. DTAC works though, as you can see from the image.

Also FYI have attached mobile network coverage for the MI4i (taken from the official Xiaomi site http://www.mi.com/en/mi4i/specs/)

That is working on the B3 1800mhz band. DTAC only went live with that a few weeks ago.

It cannot run 4G on truemove. It does on DTAC. How do i know?

I bought a new DTAC sim card and got 4G speeds recently during december. On the minus side even hspa speed on true was super slow that was why i opted to use DTAC.
