If I'd known then what I know now about these ugly little bugs...

attachicon.gifLong Horned Beetles IMG_4699.jpg

Are these the critters that make an impossibly loud and annoying sound at night? Almost like a sick car alarm?

I think these longhorn beetles just burrow into trees and kill them. I don't think they make much noise.

You may be thinking of Cicada. They make a high pitched noise:

I have the Cicada in my garden too but I usually find only their old skins hanging off trees or walls, or hose pipes:

I used to have a camera with "super macro" and got some good close-ups:

No the cicada sound isn't too bad. Whatever makes the sound that I occasionally hear at night is like nothing else. Guess I'll keep wondering. My gf thought it was the beetle.

I 'liked' you're photo budnycat because its pretty and nicely balanced, but I don't think that Nong Nooch Gardens has improved by the addition of all the stone animals and effigies. Have you seen The Gardens without the stone animals? I was there in 2004 and 2012.
