At 10 pm, Thalang police raided a plot of forest behind house number 145 in soi Bang Niewdam in Srisoonthon where many men and women were found to be playing an illegal board game.

All the gamblers tried to escape but police were able to apprehend four of them.

The four were named by police as Pichit Sriprapin, 54, Arnie Pernkhajonkiet, 66, Niyom Iraya, 60, and Ms Bualai Konkaew, 55.

Police seized from the four 124 playing cards, dice, a game board, B7,300 cash and casino chips worth B540,000.

After being questioned by police the four gave up the name of the organiser of the gambling event who police are now looking for, along with the gamblers who escaped.

Even the cops look a bit sheepish about this ridiculous parading of these "criminals" before the press.

The only thing the cops were bothered about was that the organiser did not pay them off up front and so a raid had to be conducted.

the absolutely most dumbest thing the police are doing when arresting gang members, is to reveal their undercover plain clothes policemen to the public with these photos. Only in Thailand ! In all other countries the press would have been condemned to blacken out their faces

"Police seized from the four 124 playing cards, dice, a game board, B7,300 cash and casino chips worth B540,000."

Really? Based on what? Maybe they should have just sold the chips and divided the money

Good point - which casino did the chips belong to? Thailand doesn't have any casinos.

More likely, they were plastic discs with numbers written on them - 10,000 Baht, 20,000 Baht etc - with no real value.

They were playing 'an illegal board game'.

How is a board game illegal? Which one? Monopoly, Risk, Chutes and Ladders?

I thought it was the gambling that was illegal - but apparently it's the board game that's illegal?

Is playing Monopoly illegal in Thailand? After all, the premise of the game is based around monetary values - and it even comes with a supply of counterfeit cash!

If they had no money on them at all, then would they have got away with sitting playing a board game??

I would assume the chips are the same you buy that come in a set for home poker games for about 30 gbp and have no monetary value!!

Another story that is impossible to make up ... People in my homecountry think I´m lying when I tell them whats going on here - its like a comedy starring Cheech & Chong and Monty Python in one sketch ... Imbecilles facepalm.giffacepalm.giffacepalm.gif

Four corrupt gamblers captured. It's another step in the right direction for this no-corruption government. Mission accomplished!

Where does it say they are corrupt?

Could possibly be straight up, honest gamblers.
