Sandra Bland What changes will happen?

I've watched the 52 minute tape released by the Waller County Texas Ranger department.

It left me with a lot of questions.

Officer Encina requested Ms. Bland to put out her cigarette which was something to which she legally could agree to or not.

He then followed by "giving her permission" to exit her car.

Officer Encina had no legal right to order Ms. bland to extinguish her cigarette while in her car but he knew once outside her car, he was in total control of EVERything.

I wonder if it's time to reexamine the power of the police in the USA?

I have never been arrested so I don't face this with emotion. I'm squeaky clean.

The power allotted American police is appropriate.

But as with any position, there are those who will abuse any power given them. Especially immature, emotionally stunted individuals like this clown.

What needs to be examined is not the power allotted, but the hiring policies and the insignificant penalties dealt out for gross malfeasance.

Thanks, I think your post has merit. The policeman involved in this incident has been fully profiled and he worked in a ice cream plant as an ingredient supervisor for four years, which is fine and then he worked for the Ranger ( police) department for about a year.

I don't have answers but only pose questions after I witnessed the video and saw how quickly this event escalated.

It left me feeling uncomfortable about the powers of the police who stop a person for a traffic incident.

In the first place, he does not work for any form of the Texas Ranger unit.

He works for the Texas Department of Public Safety as a Highway Patrolman

The Rangers are an elite force of the Texas DPS and are a very highly rated enforcement organization. They are the lead state investigative force in this matter.

Maybe the Patrolman thought Ms. Bland was smoking the cigarette to mask any smell of marijuana smoke in the vehicle. It was found in her system following her suicide.

Nobody knows at this juncture.
