Tourism council expects 7m visitors to Thailand in 3rd quarter

BANGKOK, 8 August 2015 (NNT) – The Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) is expecting 7 million tourists to visit Thailand during the third quarter, while the government expects an income of 2.2 trillion baht from tourism for the entire year.

TCT’s President Ittirith Kinglake has revealed the overview of the tourism industry during the second half of 2015, saying fewer tourists are visiting the country during the 'low-season' third quarter. However tourists from China, Malaysia, and Japan are constantly traveling to Thailand during this period.

He has said that the number of tourists is expected to increase during the high season between the third and fourth quarter, while more European tourists are expected to visit Thailand.

He then disclosed that the number of tourists for the third quarter is expected to reach 7 million people, while this figure for the entire year is estimated at 29 million people. Gross income from tourism for the entire year is expected to reach the government’s projected point at 2.2 trillion baht, 1.44 trillion from international visitors and 800 billion baht from the domestic market.

TCT’s President has addressed that Thailand’s tourism industry during 2015's second half is still exposed to both political and economic risks, while these issues will be monitored closely. The government intends to attract good quality tourists that will likely spur more spending in the tourism scene in 2016 by focusing on quality rather than quantity. Good quality tourists will also benefit to the nation's natural conservation.

On the realization of ASEAN Community, TCT’s President envisions that Thailand's tourism sector will strongly benefit from the regional community, as the country has its strength in beautiful attractions. However Thailand also needs to increase its competitiveness on the quality of its products, services, safety and convenience.

Looking at the trusty FACTS to analyse this, one can surmise they may well be on the money with the projection of 7million tourists in the 3rd quarter.

In fact this current slump in tourism is still avergaing about the same number of arrivals during high season in 2013.

The record tourist number arrivals just keep going up.

Gotta love facts.

What facts? The story is from the National News Bureau of Thailand (Thai Gov propaganda) with data from TAT and the article quotes TCT who are co-located in the same building in Bangkok.

Well i'm doing my annual pilgrimage driving from Costa del Sol

in Spain to Lagos in Portugal, i have many friends along the

way and make many stops at many beach side towns, this year

the run is without fault, hardly any people about, i can drive to

beach or shopping center and quickly find a parking space, this

is completely unheard of here in the second week of August SO

TaT are right, all the tourists are going to Thailand.

Just dont mention the dual pricing!

or the traffic-mayhem or the tourist shakedowns or the scams or the Slaves in fishing or .... list goes on and on and ....

If from Europe then stay away from here and go to Vietnam - you will have a great Holiday there for a reasonable Price - in Thailand all is overpriced ...

Why is anybody surprised. They have said for ages they would have 28 million visitors this year. So let me see, 28 divided by 4 mmmmm lets see that's 7 million. Wonder if they used a calculator for that. They have to keep up the fairy story. They haven't allowed in the Maths the fact that the holiday season from November to February has a bigger percentage of visitors. Wait for revised figures of 32 million visitors this year now!

@djjamie. You are showing a graph on the FORCAST for Thailand's tourist arrivals which is not considered a FACT as your post states.

Forcast: predict or estimate (a future event or trend).

Fact: a thing that is indisputably the case.

As stated from tradingeconomics.com

It might help if they stop killing, robbing and maiming tourists.. Not just the Police, but other Thais as well

It would also help is the Thai staff at hotels cleaned and repaired the 5 star rooms... and serve decent breakfast that doesnt make you ill

Last 5 star Hotel I visited had glowing reports... So i booked in and it was freeking horriblle... so I reread the reviews and only then picked up that all the top reviews where Thais, with all the negative reviews mainly being foreigners....

There is only so many tourists in the world and once bitten..... Perhaps the Chinese live in such nasty conditions and think what Thailand offers is a good effort....
