Thailand & Laos to strengthen joint drug crackdown

NAKHON RATCHASIMA, 8 August 2015 (NNT) – Thai and Lao governments have agreed to strengthen their cooperative drug crackdown during the 15th bilateral meeting of Thai and Lao delegates on the joint effort to prevent and combat drug trafficking.

The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) disclosed that both sides agreed to beef up inspection of boats along the Mekong River, starting in August. The meeting was co-chaired by Justice Minister Gen Paiboon Koomchaya and the Chairman of Lao National Commission for Drug Control and Supervision, Mr. Kou Chansina.

Apart from the stricter joint surveillance, the Thai government has requested the Lao counterpart to help monitor transport of drug precursors and related chemicals from Thailand to prevent and stem narcotics production in Golden Triangle. Meanwhile, Laos suggested that Thai authorities identify suspicious boats in advance.

The ONCB has also offered to train Lao officials to deal with detection of active narcotic ingredients and drug testing in laboratories.

Hmmmm...they have done this before and the end result is the little guys are caught while the big guys carry on with impunity, more or less.

The problem will never be resolved as there are too many people involved who can not be punished or will never be punished while their involvement in illegal narcotics trafficking can not be completely stopped.

As long as there is a percent of the population who wants to try the drugs and or think of the recreational drugs as part of living life to the fullest and willingly participate in the party hardy drug consumption culture then there will always be illegal narcotics suppliers who participate for the lucrative profits involved....as in multi millions are created nearly over night and plenty more people willing to step up and take their place if they are removed from the equation.

As long as people fight for their rights to do what ever they want with their own bodies and their own lives then there will always be recreational purpose drug consumption and all the social ramifications and problems associated with the mass consumption of narcotics for the sole purpose of pleasuring and entertaining ones self.

That being the case, then there is always going to be plenty of people who want to manufacture / produce and or supply the drugs to the eager and willing consumers.

Does not matter if the recreational purpose drugs are illegal or legal...there always will exist the supply and demand aspect of the whole affair while both ends of the spectrum feed off of one another while sustaining the associated problems regardless of being legal or illegal to supply and or consume.

I personally would like to see the recreational drugs legalized....at least just to learn what the ramifications are or, if good intentions quickly run amuck, concerning the legal supply and consumption of narcotics sold and consumed for the sole purpose of getting high on or stoned on or what ever colorful descriptive terminology you want to use to describe the effects of purposely consuming the known recreational purpose drugs that are available ..but presently illegal to consume.

Without a doubt there would remain several known and existing social ramifications caused by the legal mass consumption of the drugs in question while there would also be new ramifications evolving and yet to be full realized and understood.....but..... the question remains: Would the ramifications and resultant problems of legal recreational drug consumption be any worse than what we are witnessing now?????.... while certainly far less people would be criminalized for selling or consuming drug products that seemingly many people will continue to consume no matter how harsh the laws are that try to stop people from selling the drugs and or consuming those drugs.

There needs to be a big change in the mentality of how recreational drugs are addressed and how the associated problems of recreational drug consumption are addressed.

At present, there is plenty of damage going on needing to be addressed while law enforcement is not the only means to address the related social problems resultant of the supply and consumption of the recreational purpose drugs.

Time for a change, all the more than ever before

Cheers
