Can a Thai national in the UK on a UK Visitor visa visit other EU countries?

Featured Replies

Could a Thai national currently in UK on a UK visitor visa visit Latvia for a few days for a holiday? Would they need to apply to Latvia for a visa and are they allowed to return to UK after the Latvia trip?

they would need to apply for a visa for Schengen visa from the Latvian Embassy in bangkok, also if the UK visa is multi entry then no problems. She has no legal residence in the UK so cannot apply in the UK.

Thanks for the rapid reply. Sounds like it's a no go as they are currently already in the UK. :-(

If they would be family members of an EU national (a British citizen for example) and they would travel together to an EU/EEA/ Schengen country that the EU national is not a citizen of, they would be able to apply from any place in the world for a free visa. But you speak about 'they' so I guess they are just tourists?

In that case Beanno got it right. Though you are free to contact the Latvian embassy in the UK and inquire there. If it would be unreasonable (poor planning won't be match that definition I'd think) to make them apply from BKK then the embassy should consider accepting the application. Perhaps you get lucky but do not expect anything!

To the return to the UK they would need more then 1 entry. Does the visa sticker say MULT (multiple entry visa)? With just a single entry it's a no go as their only entry has been used.

As a thought it may be possible to get a visa for Latvia and cut short the UK visit for several days and go there on the way back to Thailand. It would be a lot of hassle as the flight tickets would have to be cancelled, a flight to Latvia arranged and then more flights from Latvia to BKK.

A lot of hassle and expense and it would depend on how urgent the trip to Latvia is.
