Min of Commerce calls on commercial attaches to contact foreign businessmen

NONTHABURI, 18 August 2015 (NNT) – The Minister of Commerce has appointed Thai commercial attaches worldwide to explain to businessmen in foreign countries, that the bomb incident in Bangkok will not affect upcoming trade expos, a ministry spokesperson says.

The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce, Duangkamol Jiambutr disclosed that the Minister of Commerce Gen Chatchai Sarikulya, has appointed the Directors of International Trade Promotion Offices worldwide to coordinate with Thai Consulate-Generals in explaining to businessmen in foreign countries the nature of the bomb incident which took place at Ratchaprasong Intersection in Bangkok on Monday evening.

The ministry spokesperson says that the Thai government has taken control of the situation, and the incident won't affect the travel of international businessmen to join the trade fairs set to take place in Thailand in the near future, as the incident will yield only a short-term effect.

Following the bombing incident, the United States issued a warning to its citizens in Thailand to register themselves at the US Embassy in Thailand, for emergency contact. However, it is expected that the Thai government will be able to retain the confidence of foreign nations, the ministry spokesperson said.

This immediate focus on commercialism, making unfounded promises of 'taking control of the situation' - grubby, pathetic, unseemly.

Aww, come on. This is what an official comment would be from an equivalent person in any country in the world under similar circumstances. What do you expect them to say? There is no justification for taking a swipe at this comment unless your aim is to prove you've got a chip on your shoulder in relation to Thailand - because a comment like that says more about you than it reveals about the motivation of the person who made the comment in the first place

People on business trips are being recalled en masse. Even people that wanted to stay on, I know of some , their companies are buying them tickets to go back in the next couple of days. So not sure what planet this minister is on.

Statements like this shouldn't be in the press. Just do the contacting as a matter of normal work and shut up about it.

People are barely buried yet. Show some class and stop talking about money, tourist numbers and commercial issues. Just for a few days at least.

It surely won't be long before TAT and the Tourism Minister weigh in with some nonsense about tourism not being affected and will they bother to express regret and condolences for the loss of life and injury or as with past incidents will potential loss of revenue be the only concern ?

History shows that, yes, it is the only real concern they have, everything else is just lip service.

I often wonder who prompts these interviews at times like this. Do the newspapers call up and ask for a statement, or do the ministries hold a press conference? Either way, they would be so much better to say, we are still investigating the effects, at least until the dust settles.

Speaking from his own little bubble.

Spin doctor alert business as usual. If there was a confidence scale from 1 to 10 this guy would be sitting at a 15
