BANGKOK: -- The bombing at the Ratchaprasong Intersection in Bangkok on Monday has sent shock waves through the Thai business sector and has disrupted some events.

The Singapore Tourism Board (Thailand) yesterday cancelled an event where Thai media had been invited to interview its high-ranking official on Asean cooperation on tourism development.

The official launch of a new flagship store of Asics, a Japanese footwear brand, at Mega Bangna was postponed from tomorrow. The organisers said they were concerned about safety.

A press conference to launch Pay Social, dubbed as Asia's first social-media online payment platform, was cancelled. The event was first planned to take place at V Hotel in the Rajthevi area.

TMB Bank closed its Ratchaprasong branch yesterday, after the violent blast that damaged the building. Located near the Royal Thai Police headquarters on Rama I Road, its glass walls were damaged by the blast.

Tourism companies suffer

The bank urged customers to use services at nearby branches - at CentralWorld, Siam Paragon and Siam Square.

Total Access Communication (DTAC) has postponed its "The BM Party" scheduled for today. In a statement, it said the party to which business and entertainment celebrities would be rescheduled.

Meanwhile on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, Central Plaza Hotel, which draws 13 per cent of its revenue from Bangkok properties, suffered the heaviest drop in share prices among listed tourism-linked companies.

Centel's share price fell 12.58 per cent to end yesterday at Bt33.

Other companies relying on tourist spending also dropped, including those in the hotel, airline and airport segments.

Asia Aviation, a major shareholder of Thai AirAsia, lost 9.17 per cent.

Minor International's share price fell by 7.06 per cent.
