A/c Without A Remote?

Featured Replies

here's one for all you sparky types...my split unit 2 ton Samsung A/C unit has a non-functioning remote and obtaining a relacement from Korea appears to be not a possibility. The unit is wired to a power switch. Is there any way to re-wire the unit to respond to the power switch alone and to have it either be on 100% capacity or off completely bypassing remote operation? The wife apparantly has lost the O&M booklet. The unit was working well before the remote packed up.

what a bother...glad that I installed insulation in the loft...

thanks in advance...

Just last week had one of my air conditioners repaired (modified). The internal electronics for IR detection went bad and could not find a replacement. Had a tech come out and he put on one of those wall type manual thermostats and wired it up and works fine. Did cost 1500 Baht though.

Hi tutsiwarrior

can you not contact samsung via the web giving details of the a/c unit and maybe search their archive for the manual or installation instructions or maybe there is a an A/C forum you could search plus if you take the cover of the remote control is there not a wiring diagram on the underside of the cover?or maybe one on the main unit cover somewhere

an experienced A/C engineer should be able to work out which wires are which and be able to wire up a replacement for you even if it is from another Manufacturer this may make it slightly innacurate though

long time since i studied A/C but on a remote you should have power in power out to turn it on

then should be a variable voltage or current supply to adjust the temp then also an override to put it to full power and maybe a timer to supply the required signal at the required time

but what do i know about electrics and A/C? :o

hope this helps

thanks for your replies, folks. Looks like tywais suggestion regarding a manual room thermostat might be the best way to go...but would probably need to have a technician come out from BKK or Suphan to wire up the alternate arrangement.

will have the wife investigate...
