Internet in Chun Phayao

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

Has anyone any idea if there is any internet providers in Chun?

I am moving there soon and hoping to god there is someone that provides home internet.

Thanks

These days there are very few places without 3G and internet but there is always a chance that you will be just out of range. I drove through Chun on the way back from Chiang Mai the other day and thought what a nice area for cycling, dirt or road. It is hard to tell about a place just driving through but it seemed nice enough, though remote.

Just call the usual suspects starting with TOT and ask your new neighbors if they have internet access.
So how is it that you are moving someplace you don’t know much about and do you speak any Thai, if you don’t mind my asking?

I know a lot about I just don't know if they have Internet :)

I speak minimal Thai but my wife is fluent.

In that case it will all depend on your specific location. Most residential and business areas should not be a problem. Just get your fluent wife to ask around in your area.

TOT or CAT should be available....it is in Phayao. The later being a bit more expensive, but has to be better than the former (I have that one and I think they suck big time). Good luck. pg

Ever since TOT Wi-Net came to my area I have been very happy with TOT. We were at the end of the line for ADSL service so there was a tendency to dropout. I just happen to have a good line of sight for the Wi-Net but that is pure luck. You will just have to see what is available at your location.

Are you near the city or in the middle of nowhere?

Chun is not exactly a cosmopoliton villiage :)

I am roughly 55 km from Chiang Rai and 12 km from Phayamengrai but distance is not the issue. There are villages between us and town where they don’t even get 3G. It will all be down to the luck of the draw on where your home is located.

Prices are the only things that are standard across the country. Company websites, like TOT, post nationwide packages and pricing but what you will be able to choose from will depend. If you are lucky you will be spoiled for choice, if not, you will have to make do with what is on offer.

Sorry to be responding so late; I found this thread while searching for something else.

We own a house in Chun (actually about 9 km north of downtown Chun), and had good internet service provided by TOT. You need to go to the TOT office in Chiang Kham to make arrangements for installation. Their office is located on the road that's alongside Kasikorn bank.

We had it disconnected over a year ago, but I recall that it was just a few hundred baht per month for the package we had, plus another 100 baht/month for home phone service. I also recall that initially there was some sort of issue with having an available "line" or "number" in the area, but that was worked out quickly with no tea money required. (This was about 5-6 years ago).
