I have had a couple of what looks like puncture wounds to my lower calf, no idea where they came from or from what, they are about an inch and a half apart and both have turned sceptic.

I went to the clinic on Saturday and they gave me a jab in the arm and some anti biotics and panadol and the other junk,

Took the antibiotics and after only one day, I was bloated up like a balloon and immediately constipated, like bunged with concrete.

The medecine I was given, (capsules) has made me puke my guts up and have been off balance all day but it seems the lesions are healing.

Today I could not put up with the discomfort in my stomach and not being able to take a dump so i took an enema / laxative.

20 minutes later the pan was full of boiling black liquid, not a solid the size of a pea or larger was visible.

Is this normal? I expected that the laxative might just loosen things a little, instead there was about a 3 litre anal evacuation of very dark brown to black liquid, it still hasn't finished so I dare not go to bed for fear of a sheet staining!

Do antibiotics make you bunged up? I have had them before with no side effect.

Should the laxative really turn your butt into a waterfall of stinking putrid turd black water?

Cheers, not a subject to talk about over dinner i guess.

Are you the chap who tried to catch the cobra???

No, I shot the Cobra but caught the Toktaw and it bit me, but on the thumb not the leg. I have no idea where the puncture wounds came from, my son thinks my wife used her dead fathers wooden false teeth as an act of revenge, so who knows? I was simply curious as to how a gut full of what felt like concrete and would not budge an inch turned to a black water torrent of about 3 litres and still has not finished. I would have at least expected I would have needed to make some sort of effort after 24 hours of the concrete setting, but by god no way! There was no dam that could hold this back

Lovely way with words.........did you ever think to ask the doctor what he thought?

Thank You,

almost Shakespearian no doubt!

Why would I ask the Doctor? He gave me the medicine yesterday at the clinic, today is Sunday, 24 hours later, the clinic is closed. I really cannot follow your logic, I didn't wait at his clinic for a 24 hour constipation session, it simply happened after being given a shot of something in my arm and a few pills of antibiotics.

The doctors here are not at all interested in your sob story about how it happened, you are lucky (At my clinic) if they even look at the problem, they just want you in and out as fast as possible. (They make their money on the private consultations at nights and weekends)

This was the same clinic that gave me a bottle of milk of magnesia and a pack of Panadol when I was suffering acute pancreatitis - The Doctor said nothing to me, but pulled my wife aside and told her "it is probably better to take him to emergency!"

After getting the 300 baht for the check up!

1. One would need to know the name of the antibiotics to be able to say if it had anything to do with the constipation.

2. Combination of an enema and a laxative will, obviously, be more severe in effect that either would alone. I would really suggest not doing that in future. In fact I would suggest neither laxative nor enema without first just eating a few prunes (available in most supermarkets). Should that fail (it usually won't) then could go on to either an enema or laxative but not both.

Note that after having vomited a lot it is to be expected that your bowels won't move for a day or two. Nothing coming down the pipes.

3. Sounds like you really need to take more care in selection of health care providers. Where do you live?

P.S. If black bowel movements continue or recur, regardless of whether liquid or formed, then unless you are taking iron or eating a lot of blueberries/blackberries, you should be evaluated for possible bleeding in the upper GI tract.

Not knowing what the antibiotic was, or what the shot was, it is possible the oral antibiotic caused stomach or upper GI bleeding.

As mentioned, if you stop taking the meds and the dark/black stool continues, then see a good doctor.

I am stunned that one person can have such an oblivious command of the English Language, without being aware of it!

What I am not getting here: Saturday, now is Monday. While I need the toilet every day I wouldn't be worried if I don't go toilet for 2 days at some special situation (antibiotics or long flight).

Would eat an apple and drink a lot first.

Or eat 1-2 pack fishermans friends cherry (mild laxative because of the sugar replacement, good enough for me)

After this experience you went a second time to the same clinic?

That's such a funny line. Bravo!

I use to be a doctor in a former life and would like to help, but I've completely lost the plot.

<deleted> is ailing you again?

i believe antibiotics are more likely to cause loose stool, than constipation fwiw.

a stomach bleed i believe is said to be both black and "tarry" ..........

if you want genuine help, why don't you list all the meds names dose ,frequency, of use, daily, as needed, and when taken ........otherwise it's just a crap shoot, pardon pun ......
