New Rama IX Tap Water Plant now operational

PATHUM THANI, 1 September 2015, (NNT) - The new Rama IX Tap Water Plant in Pathum Thani Province, one of several projects royally initiated by His Majesty the King, officially began its operation yesterday, serving the people in the capital and nearby areas.


The opening ceremony of the new plant was presided over by Sumet Tantivejkul, Secretary-General of Chaipattana Foundation, and attended by Deputy Interior Minister Suthee Makboon.

According to Provincial Waterworks Authority Director Ratana Kitchawan, the Office of the Royal Development Projects Board, the Royal Irrigation Department and related units were responsible for the construction of the new tap water plant.

She said the plant would greatly benefit residents of Bangkok and its vicinity. The new Rama IX tap water plant has a maximum capacity of storing up to 10 million cubic meters of water.

Video appears to show Texas deputies shot man with hands up

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Video obtained by a San Antonio TV station appears to show a man with his hands up fatally shot by deputies, an encounter that authorities say happened after the armed man resisted arrest and nonlethal weapons failed to bring him under control.

Grenade explodes during Ukraine clashes; 1 officer killed

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — As lawmakers took up a measure to give greater powers to separatists in eastern Ukraine, nationalist protesters clashed with police outside parliament on Monday, and the Interior Ministry said one officer was killed in a grenade blast and more than 100 were wounded.

PHUKET: -- The Phuket Provnicial Court this morning (Sept 1) ruled Phuketwan journalists Alan Morison, 67, and Chutima Sidasathian, 34, not guilty of all charges filed against them for defamation and under the Computer Crime Act.

Indonesian wildfires cover Yala in smog

YALA, 1 September 2015 (NNT) - Many provinces in the South of Thailand are still covered by smog from Indonesia, particularly Yala where thick haze is frequently visible in the morning.


Yala residents have reportedly been seeing more cloudy skies this week. Thick clouds of smog believed to have come from Indonesian wildfires have blanketed southern Thailand for over a week.

Yala residents have not been affected by the haze yet, despite this daily phenomenon. People with respiratory conditions are wearing protective masks outside of their homes. Commuters have been warned to be mindful of poor road visibility.

Junta Claims More Arrests Made, Urges Public to Report ‘Suspicious’ People

Bangkok Bombing: 24 Officers ‘Transferred’ over Misconduct
