Min of Transport: Railway Dept slated for 2016

BANGKOK, 2 September 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Transport expects to establish the Department of Railway Transport in 2016, a new body tasked with supervising state railway service providers.

Permanent Secretary of Transport Soitip Traisut disclosed that the draft plan for the establishment of the new department had been completed. While some agencies have approved of the project, others including the National Economic and Social Development Board, the Budget Bureau and the Council of State continue to study the plan for any required adjustment.

If all stakeholders give the green light, then the plan will be submitted to Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith. Once approved by the Transport Minister, the project will be proposed to the Cabinet.

The Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning is in charge of the preparations for the new body. The majority of personnel of the Department of Railway Transport will consist of those from Railway Engineering School, the Department of Highways and the Department of Rural Roads.

I guess that they finally realized that the State Railway of Thailand wasn't working out, so replace the SRT with another layer of bureaucrats that won't be up to the job either

I wonder if there will be any layoffs at SRT since these new guys will do the job for them

Probably not, since they are not even listed
