NRC’s Thirayuth says new charter does well to tackle country’s problems

BANGKOK, 2 September 2015 (NNT) - Thirayuth Lorlertratna of the National Reform Council (NRC) said he believes the draft constitution contains provisions that will solve the country’s problems.

Mr Thirayuth, who chairs the NRC's committee on state administration reform, said the new constitution greatly differs from previous charters in that it was specifically written to resolve unrest in the country.

He said the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) has incorporated almost all of the NRC’s requests and is particularly pleased with the constitution’s stipulation of a national strategic development plan.

Regarding criticism on the constitution’s lack of a preamble, its establishment of a National Strategic Reform and Reconciliation Commission, and some of its undemocratic provisions, Mr Thirayuth said differing opinions are healthy for the democratic process.

As for the suggestion that NRC members who are also members of the CDC should abstain from voting on the new charter, Mr Thirayuth said the suggestion is unfounded and that he believes all members of the NRC should be allowed to vote.

If by solving the countries problems he means finds a way so that the old money can stay in power despite the will of the people, then he may be correct.

He does and he is.

Unless is puts the military in its rightful place as servents to government and the people it wont solve Thailands biggest problem. I doubt it addresses this issue so it will be another failure unless you consider directorship the future.
