Djokovic to play Nadal in exhibition match in Thailand

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) — The world's top-ranked player Novak Djokovic will play an exhibition match against longstanding rival Rafael Nadal in Thailand next month.

Suwat Liptapanlop, president of the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand, said Wednesday that the match would be played on Oct. 2 at Bangkok's Hua Mark Indoor Stadium.

He said the match was important to the tourist industry after last month's deadly bombing of the Erawan Shrine, saying it will "boost confidence of Thailand's safety and the business returns to usual."

Djokovic last came to Thailand in 2008 when he lost the final of the ATP Thailand Open to Jo Wilfried Tsonga, while Nadal visited the capital in 2010 for the same tournament and lost in the semifinals.

Sorry Alien365 you beat me to it...

Mai pen rai. I was looking forward to this event and was ready to buy tickets today but i saw that it clashes with a table tennis tournament in Pattaya. (tickets already bought on Thai ticket major) so I will wait for the next time. Or just go back to the UK and watch Wimbledon, A lot cooler than the US open seems to be at the moment.

My twin and I used to go to Wimbledon regularly...he was a member of the tennis club, and got tickets every year. Its a real shame his Mrs didn't like tennis, so i had to go instead, bummer eh?

Funny you should say about the table tennis, we were also thinking of taking a trip to Pattaya to watch it. He played, but i just watch, I'm a golfer myself.

I hope there will be a big turn out this year, the China team are playing and Sawattebut is playing really well. Tickets are much cheaper too in comparison to the tennis. But still Novak v Rafa, that's always going to be a great match to watch and I would have loved to have made it this time round. (Only golf I've seen here was the LPGA in Pattaya too, they're incredibly good, their drives are as straight as a die)

I like watching the girlies play, went there 2 years ago.

Watching the 'big boys' play is always great fun, they are like robots. The girls are better to watch because they play a similar game to us, although they make a lot fewer mistakes than me...haha, I can whack it out there, and if i can find it, I whack it again!

I love watching live sport, even like watching foot-volleyball, or volley-football, (whatever its called), in Korat.
