Airport Taxi Busted for Turbo Meter

Taxi driver Sawai Meepian is accused of jacking up fares with a hidden button near his turn signal.

BANGKOK Police and soldiers at Bangkoks Suvarnabhumi Airport arrested a taxi driver yesterday for installing a rigged fare meter and having illegal drugs in his car.

Police say the driver, Sawai Meepian, installed a device known as turbo meter in his car, which can be pressed by hand to swiftly raise the fare. The switch was wrapped in a black cloth and hidden close to the turn signal, police said.

They also claimed to find 24 kratom leaves in the vehicles glove box. Kratom is an addictive plant used as a folk remedy and is illegal in Thailand.

So a Thai in possession of an illegal drug does not get fined nor jailed, but the Scottish that was arrested with 1.2 grams of Marijuana, not even enough to roll a bloody joint, probably gets life imprisonment after his arrest. Bloody hypocrites! Why do tourists even keep coming to this cheating hating anti-foreigner country? Go to the neighbouring countries such as Cambodia Laos and Vietnam. Much nicer and friendlier although Vietnam is not cheaper...

'... Taxi with such meters are locally known as “Taxi Turbo,” where the fare goes up fast and sky high.' And the driver presumably thinks it doesn't register with passengers? Wrong! Newcomers, yes. Anyone longer term, no. The rapid rate changes are unmissable.

-  Old guy smells of curry

-  Illegal driver need to pay before destination and you are his friend if anyone asks

-  Guy that coughs a lot (the beatboxer)

-  The one that is clueless has no map or gps in the car

-  Female usually uber or grab you often sit with shopping and baby toys

-  Laos Taxi look really shady but actually quite good

 

 

 

It's worth freaking out a few of these scammers by getting one of those taxi meter apps on the mobile. They use GPS to log accurately the actual mileage done and also show the route that was taken, and they have local tariffs for many worldwide cities (including Bangkok). Given this is a worldwide scam, these apps have been around for a few years now. Just pick up a sim at the airport and you're all set!

I always get the guy that can’t keep his foot steady on the throttle. On/off on/off on.. vomit....or the guy with the nervous tick that can’t stop twitching.
