The willingness of ladies in beer bars to speak to you is a function of your contribution to their income. For you, it's entertainment. For them, it's a job. Buy drinks for them (they get 50 baht each drink) and they will talk to you all night.

Ladies who are working girls, i.e., work in beer bars, in general prefer not to work in their hometowns where they are subject to the opprobrium of people they know. Better chances of meeting CM beer bar ladies in Pattaya or BKK or Phuket or Hua Hin.

And please, gentlemen, if you buy lady drinks don't insist on full portions and "real alcohol". You are paying for her company, not the deterioration of her body.

The majority of women who work in the shops and markets of Chiang Mai are from the Northern region. You could try chatting to them. They would tend to be more genuine, on the whole, than women working in bars.

Young people's place in Chiang Mai is the Riverside Restaurant and most places in that area. Most with live music, and dance floor.

If you are over 40, mid age ladies in beer bars probably are "working"...

Better to get a shopping cart in Big C or Lotus, and ask ladies for help to buy groceries...I beat....Somebody will ask you if you are single..and go from there. Make sure that their husbands or BF are not around...and that you have a card in hand with your phone number and e-mail. Most "good" girls will not hold a long conversation..even if they will like to date you...but....may call you.

Attractive normal Chiang Mai women are everywhere, but in order to meet them it helps to be young, good looking, charming and speak fluent Thai (I fall well short on the young and fluent Thai qualifications, and can't claim high marks on the other two).

Chiang Mai bargirls--I don't know, I've never given province of origin any thought. It is not my chief concern in those places.
