Ron Springett dies

RIP

I only mention it because I cut my teeth on a village green in Cumberland many moons ago diving around between a rusty goal frame, shouting "Ron Springett" (ex England goalie who was overshadowed by Gordon Banks ascendancy around World Cup England Winners time).

I gave up playing goal after our village youth club team was losing 12-0 at half time and my Dad mixed up the teams at half time to make a proper match of it!

Probably why I took up reffing at college also.

Ron Springett was rather small for a goalie but his agility more than made up for this and if Gordon Banks hadn,t been the best keeper in the world at this time Ron would have had many more England caps.

Unfortunate that his career clashed with Gordon Banks. Wednesday goalie in 1966 Cup Final which they lost 3-2 to Everton after leading 2-0 early in the 2nd half.
