Voting in a committee meeting? How do they handle it in your condo?

Recommended Posts

The condo law says: "The Meeting decision shall be on the basis of the majority of votes. In casting votes, each member shall have one vote. In the case of an equality of votes, the Meeting Chairman shall have an additional vote as the casting vote."

In 6 or 7 committee meetings (according to committee members as well as to the minutes) this year there was not a single vote to any decision made.

And if you ask any committee member why they decided like that everyone is blaming the others for the decision. I complained to the JPM as he should uphold the law and request a voting for each decision to be done but away from the promise he gives a damn shit on what a farang wants... Means no action taken.

Can there anything be done to force them to hold a voting for every decision to be done?

I see nothing in the condo act that prevents decisions in committee meetings being taken by consensus and tacit approval, assuming that no committee members object to this. It happens in our meetings also. There may be something in your specific building regs that insists on this though. You should check.

At the same time it is obvious that a proper show of hands and a proper record of the vote would be vastly preferable. But trying to get Thai building management to do their jobs properly is like trying to get water to flow uphill.

I dont see how you can do anything more than bring it up at your next AGM, and ask the chairman why he has failed to demand proper votes and proper records. The chairman is the titular head of the committee and it is up to him to ensure proper functioning of committee meetings. If he cant do this then he should stand down or be voted down by the other members.

^^^ agreed it's minuted as accepted by the committee. We have rejected suggestions even if one member doesn't like it and all the others have because their argument was persuasive. The op should be more concerned about the voting at the agm and its transparency.
