NLA passes amendment on real estate auctioning

BANGKOK, 1 October 2015 (NNT) - The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has passed an amendment to the civil code pertaining to the auction of real estate properties.

The law was drafted so that prospective landowners would not need to be responsible for the outstanding bills of the previous owner. The law would help protect the rights of the buyers and make real estate more appealing to the general market.

The committee tasked with scrutinizing the bill proposed that related agencies inform the public of the implications of the new law.

Academic backs govt forest expansion plan

BANGKOK, 1 October 2015 (NNT) – An academic has expressed support for the government’s forest expansion plan which would cover 40 percent of the country’s land within 10 years.

Khanchai Duangsathaporn, the head of Kasetsart University’s Forest Management Department in its Faculty of Forestry, has said that the government’s forest expansion plan to increase the forest land to cover 40 percent of the country’s land within 10 years is possible and should be done in order to reclaim forest land that has been encroached on. He added that the forest areas owned by the government and the private sector should be restored and cultivated.

He added that the government must execute this strategy continuously every year, and it should be addressed in the National Economic and Social Development Plan, and that more public participation should be encouraged to help preserve the forest areas.
