Hi all,

Just after a little help from anyone who's done it recently. On Tuesday I'll be taking my son (4years old, half-Thai) back to the Uk for a week to see his grandparents. We're travelling without his mum so I'm just asking if there's anything special that I need to prepare?

I have a signed letter of consent, signed ID copy and signed passport to show to immigration and he has a Thai and UK passport. Is there anything I've forgotten?

I took him to the UK 3 years ago and as I didn't have the letter of consent it was a nightmare. Luckily we don't live far from the airport so my wife was able to come to the airport and plead with immigration to let us go. I don't want to go through the same again.

Do I need a copy of his birth certificate?

Thanks all. Have a great weekend.

As UJ says, I would take his birth certificate as well. I know I always do, together with copy of passport from mom.

The letter of consent I have is in English and in Thai, I was was asked for this on checkin for the return trip :)

Thanks guys. Looks like I've got what's required but we'll see when I'm at immigration - you know Thailand!

Cheers again chaps. Have a great weekend

Sorry for late reply, which is probably useless by now: may help others in the future.

You WILL have a problem.

You require a letter of consent written by the the amphur in the area you reside, on behalf of the mother, with her present, along with your poo yai baan. the letter is signed by the mother, and countersigned and stamped by your local amphur. This is free of charge and is valid for six months. You will need to take the child's birth certificate, and copy of the tabien baan both to the amphur, and also as you pass through Immigration at Bangkok Airport.

I have travelled on two successive occasions with my grandson (half Thai). Last year, only just managed to pass Immigration without having the amphur letter, after very long conversation between Immigration officer and the child's mother. touch and go.

This year (3 weeks ago to the day) departed Bangkok for UK with all the paperwork. Long scrutiny, lots of questions, but passed through after 10 minutes.

Speaking from experience, also confirmed by my embassy: consent letter does not have to be legalised at the amphur.
